Nikki Dowd Obituary
AGE: 40 • Little Silver
Nikki Mills Rosiak Dowd, 40, of Little Silver, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, as a result of a train accident in Aberdeen. She created her own business Lah Dee Da's in Charleston, SC which combined her love of food, antiques, the arts, people and animals. A small body with a giant spirit, Nikki touched many lives and will be remembered for her generosity, humor and tenacity. Nikki was a talented athlete and graduated from Rumson Country Day, Rumson High School and Belmont Abbey where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Pi sorority.
She is survived by her mother, Pat Mills and partner, Hamilton Shippee of Little Silver; her sister, Robin and brother-in-law, John Gilbert and their son, Ellis of Hull, MA. Also survived by Judy Robinson and her children, Seth Robinson and Sara Barrett, Pam Fillion and her children, Ben and Matt (maternal aunts); her father, Frederic Rosiak of Highlands; paternal grandmother, Nancy Rosiak; paternal aunt, Nancy Jean Rosiak, both of Westport, MA.
There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 202 Navesink Road, Middletown. All are welcome at the celebration of her life with a reception at All Saints immediately following. Burial will be private. Memorial, in lieu of flowers, contributions are welcome and should be made to Lunch Break Food Pantry, PO Box 2215, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank was entrusted with her care.

I knew Nikki for about a year and a half when she was 7 and I was dating her sister Robin. That was 40 years ago and even though I am reading this now, I am shocked and very sad. At the age of 7, she was a shining light, full of energy. She was always interested in what her sister and I were doing, she made me laugh and I in return did my best to return the laughter. I used to call her Nicky Lenin, the first cut off a brand new comedy record from Robin Williams released in '79. She looked just like the photo with the polka dots. And when I think about the past and my relationship with Robin and time spent at her home in Rumson, I never had any doubt that she would grow up to be someone special, and from what I have read on this site, she did. To Robin and Fred and Patricia and all of her wonderful friends, I am so very sorry, my heart is heavy and my prayers are with you.

I was Nikki's boyfriend. Which most people didn't know that she even had one. We were together about 6 months. I saw the whole tragic event unfold and was unable to do a thing which haunts me constantly. The times i spent with her were the best days of my life and hopefully hers also. She was such an amazing spirit so caring, giving, and generous. I loved her more than anyone could ever imagine and i hope she felt the same way towards me. She was my little earth angel. Now she's the Lords angel.Please Jesus wrap your loving arms around my little princess and surround her with beautiful bouquets of flowers and all the things that she cherished here on earth. R.I.P. my everlasting love until we meet again. I never ever will forget the memories or the love we shared and you will live on in my heart forever. May the Lord comfort her mom, family, and friends. I will love you always and forever my darling.

Nikki, you became a part of our family thru John and we quickly fell in live with a precious, beautiful young lady. Your never ending energy, creativity, hospitality, love for animals and children , Charleston , knowledge of antiques, and the beach captures you to a "t"! A lifetime ago, at RCDS where I became friends with Nikki, we read The Little Prince… I can't help but think of the emotional goodbye when The Little Prince says, “In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night...” The image of Nikki with her beautiful smile that lit up a room now lighting up the sky, transcending all, feels so tragically beautiful. To the Rosiak family, words cannot express the profound sadness about Nikki whose spirit and kindness touched and included all who had the incredible fortune to know her.

I just heard about Nikki's passing. Nikki always had a smile on her face and love in her heart. I have such fond memories of Nikkie growing up from our long days at the beach, on the courts or just riding our bikes around Rumson. Although we lost a very special soul, heaven certainly gained an angel. Sending warm thoughts and prayers.

My deepest and most sincere condolences....
