Oscar Haimowitz, loving husband of Sondra Haimowitz for over 60 years, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, with Sondra and his devoted children, Laura Galle, Mark Haimowitz and Ira Haimowitz close by. Oscar, 80 years old, a resident of Waretown, NJ; but born and raised on the Lower East Side of New York, was predeceased by his parents, Isidor Haimowitz and Sophie Rosen Haimowitz, his brother Sol Haimowitz and sister, Mille Pastore. He leaves behind his sister, Gertrude Siva. Oscar had five adoring grandchildren, Melissa Eve Haimowitz, Rebecca Galle, Nathan Haimowitz, Deborah Haimowitz and Eva Haimowitz and treated his daughters-in law, Lisa Haimowitz and Barbara Haimowitz as his own; along with his son-in-law, Steve Galle, who predeceased him.

Oscar was a leader in his communities. Most recently, he was the founder and organizer of the Greenbriar Oceanaire Tennis Club and a leader of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. He was also a member of Doar Avir and past president of his local Order of Knights of Pythias. Oscar was an avid tennis player and New York football Giants fan as well as a diehard Brooklyn Dodger fan as a child. He had a long career as a life insurance underwriter with MetLife and earned the title of CLU, the highest level designation available in the profession. He also was a senior claims representative for the Social Security Administration in Queens, NY and Trenton, NJ.

Funeral services will be held this morning, Thursday, April 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, 454 Cranbury Rd (at Evergreen Blvd), East Brunswick. The phone number for the chapel is 732-390-9199. The family will be receiving friends at the chapel starting at 10:15 a.m. Interment will take place at Wellwood Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate to your favorite charitable organization.
