Peter McCue Obituary

Peter J. McCue

Red Bank - Peter J. McCue departed this life after a long illness on July 15, 2018. He is survived by his siblings, Vincent J. McCue, Jr. of Brick; James A. McCue of Middletown; Marie Collins of Colts Neck; Paul T. McCue of Shrewsbury and Teresa McCue of Red Bank, along with 10 loving nieces and nephews and numerous friends. A recital of Peter's surviving kin; however, does not in any way do justice to his lively personality or the manner in which he lived his life. Certain traits of his come quickly to mind: outstanding athlete, affable nature, inventive home cook, boyish good looks, surfer, great Irish conversationalist, witty and charming.

His love of sun, fishing and sport drew him to Florida for much of his young adult life; however, he returned many years ago to his birthplace in Red Bank, for most of his life, ever enjoying its memories and unique offerings.

When thinking of Peter, remember the words of Robert Louis Stevenson "That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much."

John E. Day Funeral Home in Red Bank will be the site of his wake from 2-4 and 7-9 on Thursday July 19th and the funeral will be held at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank on Friday July 20th at 10:00 a.m. Private Interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Peter's name to the Parker Family Health Center, 211 Shrewsbury Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701 (732)212-0777 ([email protected])

As real a friend as could be had. Pete and I fished Swimming River and Pine Brook when the ice and snow barely had barely melted in early spring. We would hit baseballs behind Shrewsbury School that always seemed to end up behind his barn. No one his size could hit a ball like he could. In fact, anything competitive you would want him on your side not against. He was one of a kind, fearless and allegiant to a fault. As is always the case over time you lose touch but the few times I saw him over the years it was smile and smiles to be remembered from so many years ago. They say if you go through life and try and pick your five most memorable friends that you truly treasured, you are fortunate to find a handful. Peter was one of mine. He loved life and life loved him. So did I and so many others. My thoughts are with you today Vinny, Jimmy, Marie, Paul and Tere as we remember Pete. I wish I could be there with you. RIP my dear friend.

Pete was my first real friend having met in Mrs. Bradshaw's kindergarten class in 1955. That year our first SGS class trip was to the McCue home for a BBQ. Pete and I had the same teachers from K thru 8th and he was always keeping classmates and teachers laughing. Pound for pound, he was one of the best athletes Shrewsbury had to offer in the late 50s and early 60s. I have countless great memories of time spent at the McCue house playing pool in the basement or "ghost" (manhunt today) where it seemed like Marie's team won every time. I am proud to have been Pete's friend and offer my condolences to the McCue family. He will be missed.

Pete was my first real friend, meeting in Mrs Bradshaw's kindergarten class in 1955. First class trip was a BBQ at the MC Cue home on Broad St. We had the same teacher in every grade K - 8th. Pete always kept the class laughing and was pound for pound one of the best athletes Shrewsbury had to offer in the 50's and 60's. I have countless great memories of time spent at the McCue home playing pool in the basement and "ghost" ( now manhunt) at night ,where I swear Marie's team won every time. I am proud to have been Pete's friend. He will be missed. My condolences to the McCue family

Pete and I were great friends in high school. He was so much fun to hang out with. I convinced him to join the RBC chorus and we were the only 2 guys in it. We doubled dated to our prom and spent many a weekend going to hear local bands. I'm so glad he made it to our last reunion. Tom MacGowan, RBC Class of 1968
