Rev. Dr. Richard Briggs on Wednesday November 26, 2014 closed his eyes in final rest at home in Willingboro, New Jersey. He was the son of Pat Seawright and Jane Briggs, born January 10, 1939 in New Brunswick, NJ. He resided in Trenton, NJ as a youth and attended Hamilton Township Public Schools. He later furthered his education at Shaw University.

In 1960, Richard enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served as a Civil Engineer for 3 years in Fairford, England. Once he returned from serving overseas it was obvious to family that Richard had found the love of his life Brenda Hunt. In December of 1964 Richard and Brenda was joined together in holy matrimony. Through this union they brought forth 5 beautiful children.

As a young man Richard accepted Christ as his personal savior and discovered his love for music through the gift of the Holy Spirit; using his gift of music through song and organ he ministered at White City Church of Christ. His ministry continued to manifest and he taught many local musicians how to play the organ. Richard heard the call of God to start a ministry of his own. In 1980, Elder Richard Briggs founded New Liberty Cathedral Church where he pastored for 10 years.

While pastoring his church Elder Briggs attended International Seminary School of Plymouth, FL, where he furthered his education in Christian Religion, and received his doctorate in Theology. In 1994, Rev. Dr. Richard Briggs was appointed pastor of Pentecostal Faith Tabernacle United Holy Church of America, where he served as overseer and embodied the church through his ministry, teaching, and love of Christ. Rev. Dr. Richard Briggs was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He lived his life loving the Lord and loving his family.

Richard was preceded in death by (mother) Jane Briggs, (father) Pat Seawright, (son) Philip Briggs, (sisters) Mary Jane Henderson, Brenda Borden, and Nicky Briggs (his twin). (Brothers) Issiah Briggs and Ronnie Briggs. He leaves to mourn his (wife) of 50 years Brenda. (Daughters) Yolanda Briggs-Johnson (Eric) and Sonja McGhee (Reginald). (Sons) Christopher Briggs (Damaris) and Richie Briggs. Daughter-in-Law Vanessa Briggs. (Siblings) Robert Briggs (Martice), Bernard Briggs (Sheila) and Beverly Hicks (Ron). (Grandchildren) Jazmine, Ryan, Matthew, Destiny, Reginald III, Sabrina, Cameran, Samaria, Sydney and Mia. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a Special Aunt Rachel.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014, 11 AM, at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church, 4151 Route 130 South, Edgewater Park, NJ, where relatives and friends may call from 9 AM until time of service. Interment: Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
