Richard Bryson, 82, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Richard was born on Jan. 4, 1931 in Everett, MA, where he was raised. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran. Richard served during the Korean Conflict; he entered the war in Norfolk, VA. After the war, he moved to Newark. He also lived in various parts of the Bayshore area and was currently settled in Hazlet. Richard was a retired corrections officer in Essex County, NJ. He was the past president of the PBA #157 and a member of the Hazlet Senior Club. Richard was an extremely active communicant of Holy Family R.C. Church in Union Beach. He served as an usher during masses, was a member of the Holy Name Society, the past president of the Golden Age Group and was named Man of the Year in 2009. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Margaret McKay Bryson; 16 brothers and sisters, and his son-in-law, Jose Lopes. Richard is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, JoAnn (Logan) Bryson; his loving children, Richard T. Bryson and his wife Joan of Elberon, Lynda Arasin and her husband Martin of Sea Bright, Dawn Lopes of Wallingford, CT, Suzanne Lampe and her husband Jeffrey of Middletown, Bonnie Carmichael and her husband Reginald of Gainesville, FL, Kenneth Bryson and his wife Mary of Belford, Marianne A. Bennett and her husband Daryl of Hazlet, Elizabeth A. Ahlfeld of Hazlet, and William L. Ahlfeld and his wife Jennifer of Wall; his dear sister, Kay Mazzochia of Andover, MA, along with 16 cherished grandchildren, seven adored great-grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 5 and from 8:15 to 9 a.m. Saturday morning, July 6 at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Route 35 North, Hazlet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, July 6 at Holy Family R.C. Church, 727 Highway 36, Union Beach. In respect of Richard's wishes, he will be privately cremated. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Holy Name Society at Holy Family Parish, P.O.
