Richard J. Burke

AGE: 80 • Spring Lake Heights

Richard J. Burke, 80, of Spring Lake Heights, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014. Mr. Burke was born in New York City, to Patty and Johanna (nee Keough) Burke. He was a longtime resident of Washington Twp., Bergen County, where he still maintained a residence, in addition to having lived in Spring Lake Heights for the past 11 years. He was an Electrical Engineer with Shindler Elevator, Morristown, for almost 50 years, before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Elevator Inspectors Committee, for 25 years.

Mr. Burke is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Helen (nee Dixon). He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sister Mary Theresa Dixon, O.P., his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Beth Dixon, his nephew Matt Dixon, his nephew and his wife, Pete and Larisa Dixon, and their children, Hannah Rose and Meghan Elizabeth Dixon. He is also survived by his sister, Catherine Walsh, and his nieces and nephew, Maureen, Eileen and Kevin Walsh, as well as other relatives and friends.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, at New Bedford Rd., Wall. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 at St. Margaret's Church, Spring Lake, followed by a committal service at St. Catharine's Cemetery.
