Richard Chu

AGE: 60 Brick

Richard Chu, 60, of Brick, passed way suddenly, as the result of an automobile accident, on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, while on a business trip in Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Chu was born and raised in Chinatown, New York City, before moving to Bradley Beach in 1971. After his marriage 19 years ago, he moved to Brick. He attended Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was employed for many years as a manager at Bob Kislin's Sporting Goods, Toms River, and will also be remembered by many as having worked at Schwartz's Drug Store, Bradley Beach, as a young man. He was active in the Church of the Epiphany as an usher and member of the choir. He also enjoyed playing golf and was a lifelong fan of the Giants and Yankees, and had recently started coaching his son's team in the Brick American Little League. However, Mr. Chu's favorite activity was spending time with his sons.

Mr. Chu was predeceased by his father, Thomas Chu. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Kiraly); his sons, Thomas (TC) and Richard, all of Brick; and his mother, Betty Chu of Bradley Beach. In addition, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Kathy Burroughs of Floral Park, Queens, N.Y.; his sister, Susan Chu of Colorado; and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jeff Martin of Florida. He is also survived by his in-laws, Andrew and Betty Kiraly of Toms River, Michael Kiraly of Arizona, Peter Kiraly of Brick, and Barbara Kiraly of New Hampshire, as well as his nieces and nephews, Michael and Nicole Kiraly, and Sarah Lucinese and her children, Caitlyn, Elizabeth and James.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at the Church of the Epiphany, Brick. Interment will follow in Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers, donations to Church of the Epiphany, 615 Thiele Road, Brick, NJ, 08724, would be appreciated.
