Richard "Dick" Kaschak
Cape May - Richard "Dick" Kaschak, 87, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Cape May, NJ on November 30, 2017.
The son of the late George and Susan (Moschak) Kaschak, and past parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Dick resided in Manville, NJ for most of his life before retiring and spending his later years in Florida and at the Jersey Shore.
Upon graduating from Bound Brook High School, Dick served in the US Navy and was discharged in 1953. He returned to Manville and married his sister Betty's best friend, Marianne "Tootsie" (Domanski) Kaschak. Dick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Tootsie, in 1986.
Born into a family of retail, Dick worked at the popular and family owned Centre Shoppe with his parents and siblings. Dick continued to build and run several businesses including a Buster Brown Shoe Store with his brother Tom and the legendary Dick's Riverview Inn. He proved to be a talented and successful business man, but his true passion and skill for carpentry led to the establishment of Kaschak Builders, which he owned and operated for over twenty-five years.
In between working the long hours necessary to support eleven children, Dick still found the time to volunteer as an active member of the Manville Fire Department and ultimately served as Fire Chief of Company # 1.
Upon his retirement, Dick mastered the art of Sudoko and enjoyed traveling and playing golf with his wife Susan Kolans when snow birding in Florida. He could easily be persuaded into a trip to the roulette table (come on #32) or hitting the dogs or ponies. Of course, Dick was most passionate about his family. He enjoyed family gatherings and the valuable time spent together with his kids and grandchildren.
Stealing a quote from Frank Sinatra, "Dickie did it his way"!
Besides his parents and wife, Dick was predeceased by a son, Richard Kaschak, Jr., son-in-law, Bob Myers, and daughter-in-law, Karen Kaschak; brother, Thomas Kaschak, Sr. and a sister, Marian Mesco.
Dick is survived by his ten loving children, Karen and her husband Jack Diegnan, Joseph Kaschak, Elizabeth and her husband Duane Creedon, Candy Blake, Gina Myers, Ellen and her husband Chip Chachowski, Mini and her husband Bill Kidd, Marjorie Kaschak-Miller, George Kaschak and his wife Debie, Sandy Kelchner and her significant other, Greg Bach; step-children, Kevin Kolans and his wife Brenda, Cory and her husband Wayne Plennert and his dear sister, Betty Cowen. Dick will be deeply missed by nineteen cherished grandchildren, Jessica, Kristin, Kim, Katie, Chris, Shea, Casey, Marianne, Lisa, Jena, Bryan, Charlee, Harlee, Richard, Daniel, Julia, Sophia, Marcella and Cameron; and by an adored great-granddaughter, Isabella.
