SALVATORE RIZZO
AGE: 74 BERKELEY
Salvatore Rizzo, 74, of the Holiday City section of Berkeley, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in New York City, he lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. prior to moving to the Holiday City section of Berkeley in 2001. Salvatore was a taxi driver in New York City for 30 years. He was a Little League baseball coach and Boy Scout leader for many years in Brooklyn. He was a member of the Italian American Club, the American of Italian Heritage Social Club and the Bowling Club, all of Holiday City.
Salvatore is survived by his wife, Catherine (nee Volpe); three sons, Joseph and his wife Ann Marie of Bayville, John and Lyn of Bradley Beach, and Salvatore of Toms River; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Christina, Michael, Joseph, Elizabeth, and Samantha; a brother, Joseph Rizzo and his wife Maria of Hackensack; and a brother-in-law, Angelo and his wife Eileen Volpe of Manalapan. He leaves behind many relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 and Sunday, Aug. 23 at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
