Salvatore Tringola Obituary

(Asbury Park Press)

SALVATORE C. TRINGOLA JR.
AGE: 70
MONMOUTH BEACH
Salvatore C. Tringola Jr., 70, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, peacefully at home. Born in Newark, he had lived in Florham Park before moving to Monmouth Beach. From an early age, Sal was destined to be the best at everything he did! He was an entrepreneur; founding, along with his father, Sal Sr. the Candy Cane Lounge in Asbury Park; he was for many years co-proprietor of Monmouth Beach Mart (The Corner Store); owner of Twelve Gate Horse Transportation. Sal and his wife, Diane, were owners of Saldina's Italian Food Market in Manalapan and currently own the popular restaurant Sallee Tee's Grille in Monmouth Beach. It was here that he found his true calling, sitting at his favorite table, front and center and greeting everyone. Sal was a generous man who supported many community organizations and was a member of N.J. Realtors Association; N.J. Restaurant Association; N.J. Horsemen's Association; and a parishioner of the Church of the Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach. Sal enjoyed watching his horse "Fagedaboudit Sal" race at Monmouth Park. There is no doubt that Sal lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed every minute of it with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Anna Tringola. Surviving are his wife, Diane Tringola; their son, Michael Tringola of Monmouth Beach; Sal's children, Mark Tringola and his wife Jenifer of Middletown, Kim Dunleavy and her husband Brendan of West Long Branch and their mother, Virginia Tringola; his sister, Josephine Sodano and her husband Louis of Monmouth Beach; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Shannon.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20 at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. (corner of Third Ave.), Long Branch. The funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Precious Blood Church, Monmouth Beach. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Monmouth Beach Beautification Committee, P.O. Box 311, Monmouth Beach, NJ 07750. Sincerest Condolences to the family. In the 60's my group of friends were frequent visitors to the Candy Cane Lounge in Asbury Park. We danced to live bands and had one heck of a good time. It was open around the same time as the Peppermint Lounge was in New York City. I also frequented the Monmouth Beach mart on the corner of Riverdale and Beach Road when I lived in Monmouth Beach. Great food prepared fresh at the deli counter, especially the eggplant slices. Sorry to see his life cut short but his family will have wonderful memories to sustain them.
Regards, Carol Nannini
