I've been meaning to leave a comment here for over a year now... I met Steve when I was just a kid when he was living in Boca Raton. He worked with my Mom until moving back to NJ. As a kid I remember him being such a funny guy with such a good heart.. Like the big brother I never had. I hope your soul is at peace Steve.

We were always close but became closer the last few months and I will miss your endless texts back and forth during football season keeping me updated on what the Jets were doing. In one of your last texts to me you called me Dad and I called you Son. I wish this relationship that we were sharing could have lasted longer. I will miss you everyday. I love you, Jimbo (which is the name you gave to me).

I met you as a fireballing little league pitcher and learned that you had an even bigger heart than you did a competitive fire. I am so grateful I got to know you, Steve. Your love, intelligence, spirit, realness, and hunger for life made you someone very special and you are leaving a giant hole here on earth. I pray you have found the peace you so deserve, brother. Love, Ben.

My closest childhood friend. We grew up together as brothers, vacationed together, and although we never went to school together we spent all summer together.

One of my earliest memories is playing knock-hockey with you at Willow Grove. We were two goofy kids, and with Lindsay, Rob, and Nick we made a small motley crew.

From the beaches at the jersey shore to the mountains of the Poconos, when we got together we would fight going to bed to stay up and talk. Through the years the conversations evolved from make believe, WWF wrestling, and sports; to talking about music, girls, and sports.

As we got older it was obvious that you had an ease to how you lived your life, it made everyone around you feel like anything was possible. You were a strong and loyal friend which made you popular and loved.

Today I chose to remember you as the kid who kept a parakeet in his room and the boy who would walk 30 minutes to hang out at the pet store.
The brother who would never let anyone say a negative word about his sister and the son who made his parents proud. My friend who has always shown me that life is precious and every day should be packed full of joy and challenge.

In this dark void that is left in your passing, the joy created reflects back like a beacon, lighting up the faces of the people who loved you. You left us while you were still young; I only wish I could have thanked you again for the positive influence you had on my life.

I will always remember that sweet beautiful face and those big feet flapping across the floor. He was one of the smartest people I knew and had a heart of gold. Never will I understand how Stephen fell victim to such an awful disease. Taken way to soon and missed always. He will forever hold a piece of my heart.

Steve,

I was in the U.S. when you were born but then I left for Canada. Your mother sent me many pictures of you and your sister, so in a way I did watch you grow up. We also saw each other a few times through the years, and the last time was when you and Jimmy Jr. walked your mother down the aisle at Lindsay and Trent's wedding. The last time we spoke to each other was a couple of years ago. You sounded happy and told me you were helping your mother and Jimmy at the winery. I know it hasn't been an easy road for you but I hope you know you were loved by many people including Michelle and I. I hope you are at peace now with your father and many relatives.

There will never be enough words in the dictionary, to describe the loving, caring, intelligent man that Steve was. He was only my friend for a year, but that year would not have ever been the same with out him, he changed my life. He taught me to have self-respect, be honest, and to never give up and for these conversations we had - I am forever grateful. Steve was the big brother I always wanted- protective, sincere, and the love he showed Justine and I, was never conditional. I still can't believe - he's not going to be in my kitchen when I get home from work; or in the bathroom when I need to get ready to go to work. He broke down a piece of the wall I shield myself with, and he took a piece of my heart. I will miss him the way I miss my teenage years - they're distant, but I will never ever forget them. I will see you in paradise, my friend. Rest easy Stephen.

You said you knew a year ago I thought you were crazy. But, your persistence made me fall in love with you. A lifetime in three month's. You wrote me beautiful letters and poems I keep along with my memory's deep in my heart. You drove me crazy with the things you would do I would ask you who seriously does that and you would say I do with the biggest smile. You would eat in bed in the middle of the night waking up to food all over and say I'm a mess lil bit.

I have struggled for the last week to find the words to express how I feel about losing you, my big brother. I have prepared for over 10 years for this moment, but I promise it doesn't even begin to ease the pain. I am blessed to have had a brother, who despite his direction in life, meant the world to so many people. I distanced myself from you to save myself from the hurt but that in no way changed the love I have for you Steve. You are now and forever will be one of the most influential people in my life. You taught me strength, determination and how to stick up for myself (even if it was because you were mocking me!). These are all qualities that have helped me tremendously in my life and I am grateful. I will miss you and all of our missed opportunities every day of my life. Madison loved her Uncle Silly and wears her new Taylor Swift shirt in honor of you. Much Love, Your Lil Sis

To Lindsey and the Maurer family, I am sorry for your loss. I remember meeting Steve and his father when I was 10 years old in little league. I remember Steves sense of humor and that he was a caring big brother to Lindsey. I haven't spoken to Steve or Lindsey in years, but just wanted to let you know that my thoughts are with you.

I have no idea how to say goodbye to you...I will always love you and you will always be with me in my heart. I was so lucky to have had you as my best friend. Each day at work I look at the plaque you gave me..."Will we be friends forever?" asked Piglet. "Even longer." answered Pooh. I will never stop missing you.

To Mare, Jimbo, Jimmy, Lindsey & the whole family
I' m sorry for your loss. I want you to know that Steve helped a lot of people here. Without Steve I would have never met the family (even crazy Uncle Billy). He showed me how to be clean and live life again. I will always remember the times we had fishing every weekend and dinner at Mare & Jimbos. I am truly blessed to have known you, will miss you, love you.
Your friend,
Paul

To my Steve, I will love, remember and miss you til the day I die. You have struggled in your life for so long. I tried to help you but couldn't. I know you are now in good hands with your dad, your Uncle Joey and your brother Chris. Nobody will ever love me in the crazy way you did and I will miss that forever. You will always be "A Mama's Boy". And for that I will always be grateful. With all my love until I see you again, Mommy.
