Thomas Cusick Obituary

Thomas P. Cusick

AGE: 94 • Keansburg

Thomas Patrick Cusick, 94, of Keansburg passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2017. Thomas was born to Irish-immigrant parents, Patrick and Delia (Kelly) Cusick on May 30, 1922 in Jersey City where he lived before making his home in Keansburg in 1956. Tom worked for Colgate-Palmolive Company for 42 years, retiring in 1983.

Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during World War II deployed in the European theatre. After his service, Thomas married his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth "Betty" Barry on August 22, 1946. Together they raised six children and were blessed to see nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Tom was known for his love of sports, the newspapers and his classic sense of humor. He enjoyed being with his Wife and family, doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thomas was a Communicant of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Goodfellows, and a life member of both the American Legion Post 273 and the former VFW Post 1953.

Our family gives its thanks to Tom's caregivers over the past several years (Sharon, Lisa, Fran, Maureen, Cookie and Danielle) as well as our many friends who always sent their well- wishes to Dad.

Thomas was pre-deceased by his brothers, Jack in 1946 and Joseph who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Normandy Invasion at Utah Beach. Additionally, he was predeceased by his brothers and sisters- in-law, Edna Greene, John Barry, Edward and Elizabeth Pokorny Barry, as well as his beloved son-in-law Thomas K. Walsh in 2011.

Surviving are his wife Elizabeth Barry Cusick and children, Joseph & Linda Cusick, Betty Walsh, Kathleen Cusick, Mary Ellen & Mike Longstreet, Thomas Cusick and Michael Fagan and William & Jacqueline Cusick. Grandchildren, Pete & Susan Walsh Hartsgrove, Thomas & Lindsay Bridges Walsh, Brian & Erin Walsh, Dr. Joseph & Dr. Katie Cusick, Jennifer Longstreet and Jason Gustafson, Alex & Carolyn Walsh Nixon, Michael & Alyssa Longstreet, Matthew Cusick and Ryan Cusick. Great-Grandchildren, Gregory, Emily, Harrison, Milo, Felicity, Easton, Hugo as well as many nieces and nephews.

Thomas will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Route 35, Middletown, NJ 07748. On Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 4 - 8pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 10:15am. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
