Violet Carlson Obituary

VIOLET 'VIE' I. CARLSON, 87 'BYE VIE' ROCKFORD - Violet "Vie" I. Carlson, 87, was promoted to glory to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012. She was an East High graduate of 1942; she married her high school sweetheart, Edwin W. Carlson, on Dec. 8, 1945, and they had six wonderful children. Vie was recently well known as the pianist for Anderson Gardens. She also played for the Tuesday morning Salvation Army services there. Those of us who knew her were amazed by her endless talents and voracity for life (especially on the tennis court!). She leaves behind her loving husband of 67 years, Ed; children, Kurt (Cheri), Jan (David) Waldner, Bun (Ellen), Mark (Kris), Gini (Randall) Kittle and Edwin (Cindy); 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and dear sister, Charlotte Nelson of Hurst, Texas. Thank you to Dr. Chuck DeHaan and Northern Illinois Hospice and her exceptional caregiver, Andrea Kuntz. Celebration of Vie's life at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at the Salvation Army, 500 S. Rockford Ave., with a gathering to follow. Memorials to the Salvation Army, 500 S. Rockford Ave., Rockford, IL 61104. Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory is honored to have assisted the family. To share a memory or express condolences, honquestfh.com.

My deepest condolences to the Carlsons on the loss of these wonderful parents who were larger than life. It seems just yesterday that Vie, and my father, musician Val Eddy (DeCastris) were together. And we were singing at Anderson Gardens....Bun is my buddy and I just want to wish you all peace at this sad time, particularly at the holidays when Ed is now gone too. He and Vie raised such a great family and gave so much to our community as did their children. What a legacy they all leave us. God Bless you all.

Ed and Family, our prayers and sympathies are with you during this difficult time. I still remember when Floyd, my Brother Jose and I would visit, we always felt like family and always felt welcome by Ms Vie. She was such a kind and wonderful person. Thanks for all you and your family did for us. Best wishes to you and the family.

Vie was always passionate in her support of her family and her faith. She was wonderful in sharing her talents; what a great reflection of God's goodness to those who were blessed to know her and share an opportunity to serve with her. Heaven got a servant indeed with her arrival. to all the family my sympathy - Pat Harris Largent

She was so special! I enjoyed several conversations we had...also remembering the fun of being in that "House of Lindberg" TV commercial. Speak often of those good memories. Best Wishes to your family. E.J. Pagel
