VIRGINIA MATHIS
AGE: 91 NEW GRETNA
Virginia Catherine Radar Mathis, 91, of New Gretna, passed away at Seacrest Village on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010. She was born in Charleston, W.V., moving to Sweetwater area as a teen and graduated at Hammonton High School. She was never afraid of work. She has worked in the blueberry fields, also the cranberry bogs. She was the little white haired lady in Wally's Store, was a toll taker at Barnegat Light State Park, had the concession stand at Bass River State Park, and her most recent employment was on the Maintenance Crew at the park, retiring in her late 70's. They called her the Energizer Bunny. She enjoyed being a member of the Friendly Seniors, sewing, baking and traveling with her niece Pat Mathis.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Herbert, in 1992; her infant daughter, Nancy, in 1952; and her son, Eugene, in 1988. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, among them Ruth and John Allen who watched carefully over her, so she was able to be at home until very recently.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Feb. 18, from 10-11 A.M., followed by a service at 11 A.M., at Wood Funeral Home, 134 East Main Street, Tuckerton, N.J. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery, New Gretna, N.J.
