Walter Greenwood Obituary
Jackson - Walter J. Greenwood, 79, of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 in Centra State Medical Center, Freehold. Born in Manhattan, he had been a resident of New Jersey for over 60 years. Walter worked at Rutgers Soil and Sod Division, Freehold; and owned & operated a woodworking business for over 15 years. Walt loved painting, carpentry, woodworking; and was an avid Yankee baseball fan. He was a pitcher for a minor league team of the Baltimore Orioles, and loved spending time with his dog, Cocoa.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Dolly. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jane; son & daughter in law, Michael & Susan; daughters Robin and Sheila, son & daughter in law, Thomas & Christine; son Daniel; 12 grandchildren, Joseph, Juliana, Nicholas, Lauren, Brooke, Ryan, Amanda, Sarah, Jeffrey, Holly, Jack & Katie; and his brother, Robert Greenwood.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 E. Main Street, Freehold on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. There will be a funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:30 AM, followed by burial at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the American Cancer Society - 2310 Highway 34 - Suite 1D - Manasquan, NJ 08736-1400; or visit www.cancer.org.
