Carolyn Kuhnen Obituary

Carolyn Broberg Kuhnen, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025, following complications from cancer treatment.

She lived a rich and purposeful life devoted to her faith and the joyful task of raising seven children.

Carolyn was born on August 6, 1939, in Salt Lake City, UT. Her parents were Winifred Haymond and Max Linval Broberg. She was the second of two children, her brother, Ron, being five years older.

Active in gymnastics and dance, Carolyn grew up in Pocatello, ID, and then in San Francisco, CA. She graduated from Lowell High School. She attended college at Brigham Young University, where she graduated with a degree in English in 1961.

After graduation, Carolyn went back to San Francisco. There, she met her husband, Wess Scott Kuhnen.

She and Scott were married in 1962, in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Carolyn loved music. She played the piano, and in college sang in the BYU a cappella choir. She left a legacy of love for music to her seven children, all of whom play instruments, perform, and sing.

Carolyn loved the Lord, and she loved serving in His church. Most of her life has been about church service.

She held several positions within her congregation, including president of the children's organization, president and advisor of the teenage girls' organization, and president and counselor of the women's organization at both the congregation and multi-congregation level.

She was an accomplished Sunday School instructor, and she taught early-morning scripture study to high school students for seven years.

Carolyn and her husband served a mission in Guatemala, supporting the Central America leadership of the Church.

Most recently, she served in her ward as the Sunday Service music specialist and choir director, selecting the music for the main worship meetings and conducting the choir.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, of 63 years, Scott Kuhnen; her children, Eric Kuhnen (Wendy), Kelly Carson (Don), Todd Kuhnen, David Kuhnen (Yvette), Rebecca Flores (David), Kristin Allen (Phillip), and Peter Kuhnen (Lisa); her brother, Ronald Broberg; and a crew of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 1480 Butte House Road in Yuba City, CA.

Public viewing will be from 11 AM to 11:45 AM, followed by the funeral at 12 PM.
