Dorothy McGowan Obituary

December 11, 1932 - October 11, 2022

Dorothy Audrey McGowan passed away peacefully on October 11, 2022, she was eighty-nine years old.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Verne (1992); son, Tom (2018); and seven siblings. She is survived by three sons, Mike of Chico, CA, Pat (Bonnie) of Southern Pines, NC, and Jim (Ellen) of Colusa, CA; brother Daryl of OK; seven grandchildren, Carli, Michael, Mallory, Hannah, Sean, Scotti, and Taylor; and four great grandchildren, Natalie, Jackson, Alia, and James. Dorothy will be missed by not just her immediate family, but, by the dozens of nieces, nephews, and friends. Oh, and all who ever tasted her caramel rolls!

Dorothy graduated from Mayville College (North Dakota) in 1950. She was a kindergarten teacher for forty-two years. She had the love and admiration of hundreds of students and parents, alike. Her passion was her teaching and mentoring of her students.

Dorothy loved to play tennis and was an active member of the Colusa Tennis Club for many years. She also loved music, and enjoyed playing the piano. Dorothy was a Godly woman and a faithful servant for Colusa's First Presbyterian Church for decades. She especially loved the time she spent with the children there.

Dorothy was an inspiration to everyone she met. She had a joyful sense of humor. She cherished her time babysitting the grandchildren. They still remember her nursery rhymes and funny stories. Her faith was a testament to her pure heart. It was always…others first.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Colusa. Donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Colusa, or CRAF - Colusa Redhawk Athletic Foundation.

Dorothy. Dear cousin.

Thank you for spending time with us during our trips to Arizona to Judy and family. We remember your big smile and lovely sense of humor. We remember you telling jokes and stories and always being cheerful.
We remember you telling us proudly about your sons and grandchildren. You also loved to hear stories from Norway and your Norwegian relatives.
We remember your brownies and pokerface while playing cards at nights.

You gave us wonderful memories.
Thank you for your time.

Sweet dreams Dorothy.
Love; Bente, Geir, Kristian and Karoline

So sorry for your loss.. Dorothy was my aunt through Gertrude. I was so happy to see her visit for Mom´s funeral. She was a very kind woman. I am sure she and her sisters are having a heavenly reunion. Terri Pearson
