Joginder Bains Obituary

Joginder S. Bains, 91, of Yuba City, CA, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was born in Ganeshpur, District Hoshiarpur, Punjab, in 1933, and immigrated to the United States in 1953, through the Port of San Francisco, CA.

He made his way to Sacramento, CA, and Yuba City, CA, to pursue an education, attending Yuba College and later Sacramento State.

He worked in local orchards to support himself through school, alongside other young men from India who would become lifelong friends and community leaders.

Together, they built a new life, rooted in mutual support and shared determination.

Joginder went on to become a successful agriculturalist, operating peach, prune, and walnut orchards with his wife, Kulwant K. Bains.

Together they ran a commercial prune dehydrator and later founded a crop insurance company that supported growers across the region.

He was a founding member of the International Prune Association and served on the first Prune Bargaining Association committee, helping growers gain a voice in setting fair pricing.

He also supported elected officials who worked to strengthen and improve the Yuba-Sutter community.

He was known not only for his work but for his presence. Joginder was a keeper of community memory, a storyteller of the "old days," and a source of quiet wisdom and encouragement for all who knew him.

He was often described as kind, gentle, positive, and calm. He was always smiling, always patient, and especially supportive of young people.

Joginder is survived by his beloved wife, Kulwant K. Bains; his daughters, Sureena Bains Thiara and Manpreet Bains; son-in-laws, Ravi Thiara and Clint Rehermann; and grandchildren, Atham Dhaddey, Daya Thiara, Imani Thiara, and Ekram Thiara.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11 AM, at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Street, Yuba City, CA, followed by services at Sri Guru Nanak Sikh Temple, 2269 Bogue Road, Yuba City, CA.

The Bains family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all who have shared in Joginder's life and legacy. His memory will continue to inspire us, and his spirit will live on in the community he helped shape.
