Oscar Diessner Obituary

Oscar (Ozz) Diessner Jr., age 90, passed away peacefully at his home on July 12, 2024. He was born December 20, 1933, in Vya, NV, the seventh and youngest child of Oscar and Minnie Diessner.

Ozz attended school in Mountain View, CA, and later graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor's in engineering.

He then entered the Air Force where he excelled as a pilot, specializing as a test pilot in the C-123's and then flying in Viet Nam. He then transitioned to the KC-135 refueling tankers stationed at Beale AFB. ~Ozz's dedication to education led him to earn a master's degree in engineering from the University of Denver. He concluded his distinguished 20-year military career at Travis AFB as a Lieutenant Colonel, overseeing the civil engineering group.

Following his military service, Ozz contributed to the construction of the PAVE PAWS Radar Station at Beale AFB. He then served the City of Marysville managing public works projects before embarking on a second career in education.

He began teaching at Cedar Lane Elementary, eventually rising to the position of vice principal. Continuing his passion for teaching, Ozz joined Notre Dame School, where he ultimately became Principal before retiring.

Known for his love of teaching, he also coached numerous baseball and softball teams, impacting many young lives. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

In 1958, during his Air Force career, Ozz met Betty, the love of his life. Together, they navigated military life, raising five children during their travels to nine different locations before settling in Wheatland, CA, in 1970, where they lived happily for the rest of their lives.

Ozz is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Betty; and their two youngest sons, Brian and Oscy (Oksana).

He is survived by his three eldest children, Bill (Wendy), Steve (Sue), and Lynn (John); 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on July 27, 2024, at St. Daniel's Catholic Church in Wheatland, CA.

A rosary will commence at 10 AM, followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 AM, officiated by longtime family friend, Father John Boll. A burial will follow at Wheatland Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life afterward at Pioneer Memorial Hall in Wheatland.

Ozz will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him for his dedication, kindness, and unwavering love for his community and family. May he rest in eternal peace.

Just found out from Lorraine that my dear friend Ozz went to his Creator last July. My heartfelt condolences to your entire family. We shared not only our 4th graders at Cedar Lane, but most importantly, our Catholic faith. I am so thankful that I got to see him one last time at St. Joseph´s a few months ago. Farewell my dear friend! Rest in eternal peace!
