Raymond Gomez Obituary

After a long battle with various medical conditions, Raymond passed from earth to eternity to be with our Lord Jesus on March 1, 2016, peacefully and surrounded by his loving family.

Raymond was born on July 13, 1936 in Oakland, CA to Josefina and Raymond Gomez. Ray was the youngest of seven children; he had two sisters and four brothers with one surviving brother, Alex. Ray is also survived by Reyna, his beautiful bride of 57 years. Ray had seven children and is survived by six of them: Jenny, Eric, Machelle (Coye), and Ramon. His son Mitchell preceded him in death. Raymond and Reyna have 27 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Raymond is also survived by many nieces and nephews and loving family members.

Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Div. - Screaming Eagles and was one of the troops that personally escorted the "Little Rock Nine" in Arkansas in September 1957 during the Civil Rights Movement. Raymond was a Cement Mason by trade, who traveled all over the country and abroad, perfecting his trade, passing it down to his sons, teaching countless others and leaving his fingerprint of excellence upon every cement floor he touched. Raymond's hobbies included gardening, making chili, baking and cooking recipes rich in family history.

We the family and friends are all deeply saddened by Raymond's passing, but we are also thankful for the years we were allowed to b e with him. This is not goodbye; this is see you later, hasta manana! Jesus said to him, " I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6). Private services to be held March 26, 2016.

Reyna y familia,

I am sorry we couldn't be at Uncle Ray's celebration of life. He was blessed with a wonderful wife and family. My oldest memory of Uncle Ray is seeing him as a handsome young man in his army uniform at a party.

Jenny, thank you again for bringing your parents to Tio Alex's 90th birthday party. Your dad looked so good. I remember he said I had beautiful daughters; I'm glad they got to meet him. May your memories bring you comfort.

With sympathy,
Bobbie and Andy Cravalho and family

Aunt Reyna and all my cuz's, I will miss my tio & godfather so much, but I'm so grateful we were able to visit with him, it was a beautiful day that will be treasured forever in my heart. He was loved and will be missed but we know this is only a temporary stop and the day will come when we will all be called to our forever Home by our Heavenly Father.
