Richard Shields Obituary
Richard Joseph Shields, 76 of Gridley, CA, died April 21, 2017 from cancer. He was born on October 8, 1940 in Kansas City, MO. He was raised in East Nicolas, CA and settled in Gridley in 1970. He worked for Shifflet Bros. Trucking Company and later was an owner operator of Shields Trucking in Gridley, CA. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting, and many family camping and fishing trips to Fort Bragg, CA. He attended East Nicolas High School and served in the United States Navy.
He is preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth C. Schwall, father Willis L. Shields, step father Frank Schwall, sister Judith A. White, and his wife of 41 years Elaine Shields.
He is survived by his children Tina (Ernie) Haro of Gridley, Deanna (Bob) Yates of Placerville, Rich (Shannon) Shields of Eagle Mountain, UT, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one on the way, his wife for the past 14 years Connie Shields of Gridley, stepchildren Steve (Barbara) Shewmake of Monett, MO, Connita (Matt) Hess of Marysville, Ryan (Heidi) Coker of Chico, Robbin Coker of Wake Forest, NC, 10 additional grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, his brother-in-law Albert White and siblings, Paul Schwall, Pamela Hunt, Karen Patche, Nicholas Schwall, and Sandra Caulder.
A celebration of life will be held at the Gridley Moose Lodge on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 1:00 PM. The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel 530-846-2138.

I use to look forward to spending the sumners of my teenage years with Uncle Dick and Aunt Elain. I remember thinking it was the best thing in the world to get to ride with him in his truck. Some of my best memories included him, Aunt Elain, Grandma Judy, and Grandpa Albert. Theirs was always a home away from home. He will be greatly missed.
