Ruby Schoenig Obituary
She was born in the family home in Hallwood, CA, on February 18, 1926, to Herman and Cecilia Wurm.
She attended Cordua School, Marysville High School, Yuba College and Pasadena college.
She was a lifetime member of the Hallwood Nazarene Church, where she spent many years as organist, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, worship leader, missionary president and any other role asked of her.
In 1947, she married Roy Smee, whom she met while attending Pasadena College. They had two children together, Rosanne and Jonathan.
She spent most of her career as a legal secretary, starting with the law offices of Earling Norby and Richard Schoenig and finishing in 1968, at Ashburn and Hogan.
In 1968, she married the love of her life, Richard Schoenig, and together they brought five teenagers into a home and made it a family.
They were married almost 34 years until his death in 2002. During that time, they raised a family, traveled, and played many a round of golf.
They were blessed with five children, fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Schoenig (Mae), and Jonathan Smee (Santa); daughters, Susan Schoenig, and Karen Schoenig (Paul Totman); fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; brothers, Johnnie and Sam Wurm; many nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends, including her dear friend and companion for eight years, Shirley Turbeville.
She is preceded in death by her husband, of 33 years, Richard Schoenig; daughter, Rosanne Singh; parents, Herman and Cecilia Wurm; brother, Warren Wurm; and sister Elizabeth Rose Springer.
Ruby's love was a guiding force throughout our lives, her strength and her faith providing a strong foundation to build a life on.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 1 PM, at the Hallwood Community Church of the Nazarene, with a gathering in the church outreach center immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ruby's name to the Hallwood Community Church of the Nazarene or charity of your choice.

To Ruby's beloved family, words cannot describe Ruby's love and devotion to each of you and her lifelong love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! God used her life in so many was for nearly 100 years, what a blessing to have been loved by her for so long! My prayers surround you as you grieve her loss here but I rejoice with you that she is even more alive in Heaven than she ever was here. May the Lord keep you and bless you.
