Sherri Rae Ziegler Obituary

SHERRI RAE ZIEGLER
On Thursday, June 26, 2008, Sherri went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, due to a brain aneurism. Sherri was the founder of the Nor-Cal Hepititas C Network and was also a founding steering committee member of CalHEP. Sherri worked tirelessly to advocate for those in need of support and services, especially in rural northern California. She always had a positive attitude even when she faced obstacles that would overwhelm most people. Sherri will be missed by many and her death will leave a huge gap in the Hepititas C Virus (HCV) advocacy world.

Sherri worked diligently to provide education, support, and services for people with HCV in her community. She was an invaluable resource to the Peach Tree Clinic the Sutter, Yuba and Butte County Health Departments, and advocacy groups in Shasta and Plumas Counties. Although she was thought of as a one woman dynamo, Sherri mentored countless advocates all over California and through them, her legacy will endure.

In addition to helping CalHEP get started, Sherri founded the Nor Cal Hepatitis C Network to help increase hepatitis C awareness and support. Sherri was also a founding member the National Hepatitis C Advocacy Council (NHCAC), a member of the National Viral Hepatitis oundtable (NVHR) and the California Hepatitis C Task Force. Sherri loved to travel with her message of hope for people who, like her, were affected by hepatitis C. She was a determined advocate in Sacramento and in Washington DC.

Sherri was a member of the Church of Glad Tidings since 1991 and was involved in the Hands-Up Ministry. In the late '90s she was involved in Babies out of Bondage and was in the first group of women to offer to raise a newborn birthed in Valley State Prison for Women.

Sherri loved worship music and truly loved Jesus. In serving Him, she served others by being a greeter, friend and mentor to many. A lover of all things beautiful and a big bundle of emotions, she was always there to listen, give others hope and speak words of life. Although we are sad to lose a loved one, we rejoice in knowing that she is dancing with the King!

She is survived by her son, Charles Wheeler of Las Vegas, NV, her father Joseph and step mother Lorraine Mains of Amarillo, TX, her brothers Gerry Mains of Paradise, CA and William Mains of Blackfoot, ID, and her sister Jeanee Marler of Paradise, CA. She was receded in death by her mother, Shirley Davis.

A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Glad Tidings. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in her honor be made to the Nor-Cal Hepititas C Network, P.O. 3307, Yuba City, CA 95992.

Sherri was a friend back in school. Although we didn't see each other except at reunions I still thought of her. I am glad to have had the chance to see her last at our 30th HS Reunion in Oct 07. My thoughts and prayers go to her family and everyone who's hearts and lives she has touched. She is at peace now.

I went to high school with Sherri. What a joyful spirit she was then. I'm so sorry we lost touch after we graduated. Her spirit will live on forever in my heart. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Sherri opened her home to my daughter Rebecca during her time at Glad Tidings. She became a second mother for Becca and I expressed to Sherri many times how thankful I was that Becca was in Sherri's 'care'. Sherri and I spent time on the phone talking as only mothers do. She was sincere and loving in her concerns for Rebecca. I always admired Sherri for her strength in the Lord - and her hair was always so beautiful :o) even if she just had it up for the day!

Chuck, I am so very sorry, your MOm loved you so much and was so proud of you, she always lit up when she talked about you. To all of her family, I am so very sorry, she loved you and now she is dancing with our King JEsus Christ. Sincerely, Judi C.

I had the privilege of knowing Sherri both personally and professionally. We shared many laughs together over the years and she was a great friend during some hard times. One of our favorite things to do was worship the Lord together and share His good news with others. I will miss her as will all the people whose lives she’s touched. I jokingly asked if Glad Tidings would be big enough for her celebration of life service. I’m thinking we should have booked Honker Stadium or the Gold Sox field. We love you Sherri and we’ll miss you. My prayers and condolences to Sherri’s family, may God bring you peace and comfort during this time.

Sherri was there when I first got certified as a Hep C trainer. We collaborated on some trainings and she will be missed by me and those she touched. I saw her at the capitol a week before she experienced the aneurysm and we hugged in the hallway as we passed going into the senate for different bills. I thought to myself how she glows and tirelessly advocated for the cause. I will miss her as a resource of strength, information, and strength and will also rejoice that she was called Home!!!!
