Vivian A. Casad, formerly of Yuba City, CA, passed away on March 18, 2024, in Moraga, CA, at the age of 103.
Vivian was born on the family farm in rural McVille, ND, on January 25, 1921, the daughter of Olaf Arneson and Alma Quanbeck each of whose parents had emigrated from Norway. She had an older brother, Sidney.
Vivian attended school in McVille, ND, in a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from McVille High School in 1939.
She then attended North Dakota State University. Shortly after America entered World War II, Vivian moved by herself to San Diego, CA, where she worked in the office of an aircraft manufacturer doing her part for the war effort as a member of the Greatest Generation.
After the war, Vivian married John A. Casad, who was also from her hometown McVille, ND. Vivian and John had two children, daughter, Joan born in 1950, followed by son, Steven in 1956.
Vivian and John lived in San Diego and Sacramento before moving to Yuba City in 1957, where they established roots and had many friends. Once her children were in school, Vivian went to work for JT Long for many years in his homebuilding business.
Vivian and John were long-time members of Faith Lutheran Church.
In retirement, Vivian and John made multiple trips to Europe, Hawaii and throughout the US with their friends. The most frequent trips were made to see their grandsons, Shaun and Ryan in Moraga to cheer them on in their many sports activities.
After John passed away in 1999, Vivian moved to Sun City Lincoln Hills where she enjoyed living independently in her own home until age 98. In 2019, Vivian moved to Moraga to be closer to her family.
Vivian was blessed with boundless energy. She remained active well into her 90's, living and maintaining her own home and precious yard.
Even at age 102, she could still play the piano by heart without music. The secret to Vivian's longevity was never thinking she was really her chronological age.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Joan Eidson of Moraga, CA; son, Steven (Phyllis) of San Jose, CA; grandsons, Shaun Eidson (Ashley) of Walnut Creek and Ryan Eidson (Kimya) of Oakland, CA; and great-granddaughters Vivienne and Mila Eidson of Walnut Creek, CA.
The family would like to thank the staff of Morage Royale Assisted Living for the care and support provided to Vivian in her final years.
Private funeral services have been held.
