FRANCIS HUGH OLIVER Funeral services for Francis Hugh Oliver, 77, will be held Friday, February 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Kevin Ratterman officiating. A private family burial will in Ponca City, Oklahoma. A time of visitation and support for the family will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Francis (Frank) was born to Frank Oliver and Alice Jones Oliver on November 27,1946, in Plymouth, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He passed from this life to life eternal on February 4,2023, in Ardmore, OK after a brief illness. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Bare, PA and his Master of Science from Duquesne University in Philadelphia, PA. He then continued his studies and received his D.O. from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Frank practiced Internal Medicine with an emphasis in Cardiology as a D.O briefly (1976-1980) before going back to medical school in West Virginia for his M.D. and into Interventional Cardiology. In the early 1980s, Frank did his fellowship in Cardiology at Cornell Medical Center and New York City Hospital. Before moving to Oklahoma in 1993, he was an Associate Professor of Cardiology for Marshall University School of Medicine, Huntington, WV. He was an Assistant Professor of Medicine / Cardiology at West Virginia University Medical Center, Morgantown, WV. Frank was appointed to many positions and on many committees over the span of his career. He had several publications. He was a Fellow with the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI). Frank relocated to McAlester, Oklahoma in 1993 and he opened McAlester Cardiology. He did diagnostic heart caths in McAlester and took his patients to Tulsa Regional Hospital for their interventions. He worked at McAlester Regional Hospital from 1993 to May of 2002. Frank met Stephanie Zeiders Smith in 1993,and they have been together since 2001. In June 2002, he moved to Ardmore and opened Southern Oklahoma Cardiologist Specialists. He was asked to start up the only second rural interventional cath lab in the state of Oklahoma. Bob Thompson was the CEO at Mercy at that time, and he was very supportive of this endeavor. Frank placed stents in patients for all the Cardiologist at this Mercy so people in the community no longer had to travel out of town for their care. Cardiology was his passion. He always said he was so lucky to work at what he loved. Survived by his wife, Stephanie Oliver. His Stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Samantha and Arron Cordell, Kelli and Ryan Hamrick of Ponca City, OK. Stacy and Justin Rogers of Edmond, OK. His brother, Tom Oliver, of San Antonio, TX. His grandchildren: Carly, John, Katie Cordell and Harper Hamrick. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter Halli Hamrick. Honorary bearers will be his cath lab crew.
