MITCH ADIN MITCHELL
On January 03, 2024, Mitch Adin Mitchell, 52, of Brunswick, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home where he lived with his beloved wife Angel Mitchell. Early that morning, the clouds lifted and ushered him to heaven.
Mitch and Angel married on September 8, 2012 on the beach in Galveston, Texas. They lived in Ardmore, Oklahoma for a few years, and then built a home in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma with their furbabies Joker and Soxxy. In 2015, they moved to Alexandria, Virginia for one year and then moved to Brunswick, Maryland, which they have called home for 7 years and enjoyed their beautiful views of the mountains and Potomac River. Mitch had been quietly battling Neuroendocrine cancer for over a year now and hypoglycemia. But that didn't stop him from taking care of his family, friends and his hobbies.
Mitch, the youngest of 3 children was born on January 1, 1972, to James Austin Mitchell and Mamie Clements Mitchell in Midland, TX, where he later attended Legacy High School. His passion for aviation started at a very young age leading him to hold an Associates Degree in Aviation Technology from San Juan College; his Bachelors of Science in Professional Aeronautics and his Masters of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Aviation was Mitch's first love. His family recounts him identifying airplanes as a little boy. Mitch turned his passion and studies into a career when he became a pilot for Mesa Airlines. His work allowed him to experience flying his favorite type of aircraft: the King Air. As Mitch matured in his career, he grew an interest in aircraft accident investigation. He transitioned his career to become a civil servant for DoD and later for a long career of 17 years within the FAA as his last role as Senior Air & Space Accident Investigator for the Office of Accident Investigation & Prevention (AVP-100). He loved working with AVP-100 and found his purpose of assisting the team with accident investigations.
His passion for flying never dwindled as Mitch continued to fly thousands of miles in both his flight simulator at home and out of the Frederick Airport as his favorite hobby. Friends recount stories where Mitch helped alleviate their flight anxiety by checking with him and explaining flight paths, the weather, and aircraft types for their own personal trips. His favorite story about his flying experience was about a very snowy day at the newly-built Denver airport, where he couldn't find his gate to taxi into because the gate numbers were printed on the ground covered in snow. The airport had to come in and spray paint the numbers on the jet bridges, just to assist flights to their gates.
He used this story to explain how even with unlimited amount of financial resources, a project still needs to be focused on the overall objective.
Mitch's personality was like that. Family and friends describe him as focused, driven, caring, happy, and with an unparallelled sense of humor. His love for aviation didn't overtake other passions. A close second was his love for music. Through watching his dad play guitar, Mitch grew a love for playing too. One of his breaks from aviation was to teach guitar lessons and fix guitars at DaCapo Music in Ardmore, OK. His favorite guitar was his custom 24 Paul Reed Smith named Seven, which was at one-time stolen, but later found on ebay and he was able to recover it himself and the local police department. His preferred music style was alternative rock and punk rock, and he was part of multiple bands throughout his life. He jammed on his guitar at least twice a week and loved participating in open mic sessions.
His feline companions were dear to him. Izzy and Amelia have stayed behind with Angel, but Joker, and Soxxy are enjoying unlimited cuddles and plays with him now.
Mitch was a man of integrity, love, and acceptance. He always took people for what they were, regardless of background. He was always available to help those who needed and never took for granted what was given to him. Mitch will be dearly missed, for his life was incomprehensively cut short. He walks in the skies of heaven looking down, smiling, to all his family and friends and waiting for the day that we will all be reunited.
Mitch was preceeded in death by his parents Mamie Clements and James Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife, Angel Mitchell of Brunswick, Maryland; brother Todd Weiler and his husband Junior Kadowaki and nephew Augustus "Auggie" Weilkad of Ashburn, Virginia; brother Jeff Weiler, his wife Allison Weiler of Flower Mound, Texas; daughter Kimberly Rose of Albuquerque, New Mexico; mother-in-law Phyllis Harwood of Ardmore, Oklahoma; father-in-law Dennis Johnson of Ardmore, Oklahoma; best friends Nick & Jamie Girard, Alexia Girard, Zane Girard, Jason Girard, Mikeal "Poppy" Popkess of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Later in his life, he found out he had additional siblings and unfortunately didn't get much time to share with them-Matt Mitchell & family of Georgia, Connie Mitchell of Texarkana, Texas; and Cindy Mitchell Turner of Bossier City, Louisiana.
A Celebration of Life has been planned for January 11th, from 4-6 pm at the residence of Todd & Junior in Ashburn, Virginia. A second celebration of life will be planned in Oklahoma in the future.
