Sioux Falls - Craig Lewis Kleinsasser, 67, Sioux Falls, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 20, at his home following a brief illness. Miller Funeral Home of Sioux Falls is handling arrangements. Craig's family plans a celebration of his life at a later date.

He was born August 17, 1950, in Sioux Falls to Lewis and Florene Kleinsasser. He graduated from Freeman High School and received his Ed.D. in counseling and psychology at the University of South Dakota. He married Holly Hemmingson on May 5, 1990, in Watertown. He worked as a counselor for the Department of Corrections in Sioux Falls and Yankton, the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield, and Dakota Counseling in Mitchell. He loved reading, traveling and fishing, and enjoyed annual trips to the Oregon coast. He cherished long walks and time spent during the past 25 years with his beloved poodles, Sherman and Pepper.

Survivors include his wife; one sister, Nancy (Roger) Schmidt of Freeman; one brother, Bradley of Yankton; one niece, Abby (Erik) Newcome of Syracuse, New York; two nephews, Trevor Schmidt of Freeman and Bryce Schmidt of Minneapolis; and two aunts, Mary Kaufman of Freeman and Sharol Kaufman of Wayzata, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joan; several aunts and uncles; and his poodles, Sherman and Pepper.
