Dennis M. Schmidt

Dennis Merlyn Schmidt was born May 2, 1940, in Sioux Falls, SD, to D.M. (Bud) Schmidt and Wilda (Dott) Schmidt. He passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at the Golden Living Center, Hillcrest of Wayzata nursing home, Wayzata, MN. He was 74 years old. Dennis died of complications of Multiple Sclerosis, of which he struggled with for 47 years.

Dennis graduated from Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls, SD, in May of 1958. He then attended St. Benedicts College in Atchison, KS. In October of 1961, Dennis enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, from 1962-1964.

In 1966, Dennis was united in marriage to Clarice Kay Christensen in Sioux Falls. In August of 1967, Dennis graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Dennis and Clarice then moved to Minneapolis. It was in early 1967 that Dennis got the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. He worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis. Dennis also worked in sales, selling college textbooks until his MS forced his retirement.

Survivors include a niece, Kirsten (Tom) Nelson, and a great nephew Brennan Nelson, of West Branch, IA. Dennis is also survived by host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice, and his parents, grandparents, in-laws, aunts, and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 155 County Road 24, Medina, MN, at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends at the church at 10:00 a.m. before the service. Interment will be in the Holy Name of Jesus Church cemetery in Medina, MN, with full military honors.
