I met Jeff at Augustana and it didn't take long to realize what a great guy he was. His demeanor was so calming to anyone around him. I haven't seen him since college but it sounds like he has kept many people calm around him since then..... Very sad to hear he's gone.

Dear Heidi, Averey, August, Elsa and family,

Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers during this time. May God comfort you.

Jeff, was a great student at Augustana. It was an honor to know Jeff. Thinking back to his time at Augie, I remember his smile and his involvement on campus. I was an administrator and Jeff was a student. I called him Chuck (after the great Minnesota Twin who then became a Yankee). We would play noon ball in the Elmen Center and played against each other in intramural sports. He was a marvelous member of the band and I appreciated watching him play percussions.

We are so sorry for your loss. It is very sad. You will continue to be our prayers.

Sincerely,

Nate Dally

Knobloch family,

It was an honor to call Jeff a friend. We went to Augie together and then he lived with me for while when he was in medical school and I was living in Ames. At Augie, we were both biology majors, he sat in the front of the class, I sat in the back, he became a doctor, I did not (he would chuckle if he read this comment). Over the years, I always enjoyed our random phone calls and our occasional golf games together. I've often thought of Knobs, simply because I admired the way he approached life and people in general. He was always the same every time I saw him: genuine, caring and a good friend. He was rock solid in my mind and that's how I'll remember him and I'm thankful for knowing him. I was proud of Jeff and what accomplished.

God Bless You Buddy,
Garrett

My heart hurts for Jeff and his family, prayers for peace and understanding for Heidi, the children's and Jeff's parents and extended family. To Dr Knobloch will always be "Knobs" a friend and colleague, we spent 2 years off residency together, shared an office space, call duties, as his senior resident I hope I taught him lots, but know he taught me how to make the best out of a situation, could make me laugh and smile. Loved sports, watched many of football games together when he would moonlight in Manning and stay with my family. When I had not been able to leave my rural community for over 18 months of straight call everyday, it was Jeff that covered the hospital duties and even OB so I could go visit my family in Nebraska, always there to help. Wonderful caring man that will be missed by many.

I only knew Jeff from early on in elementary school in Rock Valley before I moved away in 5th grade. However, when I learned of his passing, I just remembered what a good kid he was and was touched to hear he not only became a doctor, but touched so many people's lives by being a good person. Sad news, but wanting the family know that he (even from my limited time with him) left such a positive impact.

I went to elementary and high school with Jeff -- we sang in choir, played in band, and did plenty of other things as well. We did All State band a few times, and we roomed together in Music Camp a summer or two. We even sat on the bench together during basketball games in Junior High. He was easy going, fun to be around, and amazingly talented. I'm still in shock. I'll be praying for comfort and healing for his parents, Jill, Heidi and his children.

A few years ago, I woke up in the hospital. The 2 surgeons, 2 hospitalists, and hospital staff were trying to save my life.

It was early morning. I opened my eyes, and there sitting quietly in the chair in the corner was my family doctor, Dr. Knobloch. What are you doing here? I asked. He grinned his boyish grin. I didn't have anything else to do and wanted to just come see you, was his response. At that moment I felt loved and cared for. He sat there until the rest of the doctors came in. He was everything I wanted in a doctor, and became a friend.

After that, he and I had many conversations about God, Eastern medicine vs Western medicine, religion, life. We shared books to read, thoughts to think about. We shared my love for horses, and he brought Elsa to Altoona (where my horse was boarded) to ride Fanny. He even rode her one day.

He will always be my friend.

I am deeply saddened by Doc's passing. He and I often had "frank"conversations about school and society. Our connection included a woven understanding as professionals, parents, swim enthusiasts, and friends. He counted on me to be a straight shooter and I counted on him to do the same. I knew I could always count on him to listen to my concerns and reply. We didn't always agree but that's what we counted on from Each other. There was a mutual respect and I admired the relentless hours he put in to our schools and community. He was a faith leader and a coach to many. My son had the opportunity to shadow him and he was a great mentor. I cannot wrap my head around his passing and my heart is overwhelmed. Peace , prayers and love to the KNOBLOCH family, Jeff will be sorely missed by many. My heart aches for the kids, his parents , family and friends. I will continue to pray for strength and comfort in these difficult days ahead.

My husband Jim and I wish to extend our sincerest condolences to the family of Dr. Jeffrey Knoblach. We only lived in Grinnell for 5 years, and during that time Dr. Knoblach was our primary care physician. He took very good care of both of us. In 2013, when I came to him with what I knew to be the signs of Rheumatoid Arthritis, he was quick to get testing done immediately and referred me to the proper care facility in Des Moines. I have been in remission for over a year and a half. Had it not been for his prompt action, I would not be where I am today in the management of my disease. He was a good man, and a good doctor. May God Bless his family during this difficult time.
