Joan Roth

Joan Roth passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at home, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 71.

Joan was born October 25, 1942 to Peter P. and Della (Post) Westra. She grew up in Hull, Iowa where she attended Hull Public School. She graduated as an RN from the College of the Mainland, La Marque, Texas.

Joan held various nursing positions. She served the majority of her years as Director of Nursing at Bethany Lutheran Home, retiring in December, 2000.

Joan married John Roth on March 12, 1983. She was a member of First Reformed Church, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Joan devoted her life caring for others, especially her immediate family members.

Joan is survived by her husband, John, of Sioux Falls, SD; three children, Monte, of Sioux Falls; Dawn, of League City, Texas; and Todd and his wife, Darci, of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth and her husband, Gerrit Horstman, of Sioux Center, Iowa, Pearl Clark of Bakersfield, California; brother, Jerry Westra and his wife, Janey, of The Villages, Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Della Westra; one son, Jeff; four brothers, Pete, Sid, Thys, and Delmar Westra; a sister, Johanna Elizabeth Westra; a nephew, Cal Horstman; two nieces, Pam Hillyer, and Valisha Clark-Hunt.

Visitation begins at noon, Thursday, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, August 8, 2014, at Community Reformed Church. Interment will be 2:00 pm at Hope Cemetery, Hull, Iowa.
