Linda Gutnik Obituary

Linda L. Gutnik

Linda Gutnik, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, in Portland, OR.

Linda was born on December 11, 1949 in Oil City, PA, to parents Olin and Lucile Baum. She attended and graduated from Oil City High School. Thereafter, she enrolled at Kent State University in Kent, OH, and finalized her Nursing Degree from Cleveland County Hospital, Cleveland Metropolitan General. After graduation, she worked at Cleveland Metro as a Registered Nurse, in the Department of Surgery. She also practiced in a private Plastic Surgery group. After meeting her husband, Dr. Steve Gutnik, in Cleveland, she then moved to Sioux Falls, SD, in 1985, where her husband began his medical practice. After moving to Sioux Falls, SD, Linda started raising the family, and became a wonderful homemaker.

Linda was an avid gardener - with a passion for floral design and landscaping. She was an active member of the Iris Society of Southeastern South Dakota. As her children were in school, she was constantly involved with PTA, school activities, music, and sports at Harvey Dunn Elementary, Patrick Henry Middle School and Washington High School. She loved traveling domestically and internationally. She made many trips to see her children who resided in different communities while in college and postgraduate training. Recently, she traveled to the Galapagos in South America, with her son Arthur, for a lifetime destination trip. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at dinners and activities at Minnehaha Country Club. Linda was the ultimate Sioux Falls Skyforce fan. She rarely missed a game, since the inception of the team, in 1989.

Linda is survived by her husband of 30 years, Dr. Steve Gutnik, of Sioux Falls, SD; children Benjamin, Sioux Falls, SD; Alexander, Saint Paul, MN; and Arthur, Portland, OR.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Kenneth Baum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be directed to the Linda Gutnik fund at Wells Fargo (Sioux Falls, SD), which will be donated to the Great Plains Zoo (Sioux Falls, SD).

A celebration of Linda's life will occur this Friday and Saturday in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation is from 5-7 pm on Friday, Dec. 2 at Miller Funeral Home (Downtown). Memorial service at 11 am, Saturday, Dec. 3, at Miller Funeral Home (Downtown). Thereafter, a private burial.

Linda was a good friend to our Mother, Dorothy Donohue. She was a great person, and we know how much our Mother thought of her. The world was a better place because of her. Jerry and Margaret (Donohue) Bruggeman and Family

Gutnik boys (that includes you, Uncle Steve) -

I am still in shock, but I know it is nothing compared to yours. The loss to our family is great, but so is Linda's spirit. I hope you find strength in each other and the rest of our family, as we pray with you in this difficult time. I love you all very much.
B'shalom,
Sari

Steve, Benjamin Alexander, and Arthur, our old friends and neighbors in the Orchard. We are so shocked and surprised at Linda's passing and so sorry for your loss. Linda was so charming. We saw her not that long ago and now this.

We are praying that the healing comes to you soon that makes the memories of Linda that now produce such pain bring forth instead only joy and laughter as you sense her continued presence with you.
