Dr. Randall K. Hahn

Sioux Falls - Dr. Randall K. Hahn died July 18, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls SD. He was 73.

Randall Kent Hahn was born July 12, 1945 in Stafford KS, to Elmer and Eloise (Seevers) Hahn. He attended St John High School and graduated in 1963. Following high school, he attended Kansas State University and received Masters Degrees in both Medical Science and History in 1970. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) in 1974. He served as a Captain in the United States Army at Fort Ord, California after graduating from Dental School.

On August 15, 1965, he was united in marriage with Carol Ann Hartsell in Stafford KS. The couple resided in Manhattan KS where they both attended Kansas State University and soon became loving parents to their son, Thad. After serving in the Army, Randall moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1976 and opened Hahn Dental. In 1982, he opened a satellite Viborg Dental Clinic and remained practicing until June 30, 2015. During his last day of dental practice, he was granted the honor of having the City of Viborg name that day Dr. Hahn Day.

Randall was a past member of Hartford Methodist Church and a member of the American Dental Association in South Dakota.

Doc was well known for his hearty laugh and crazy sense of humor. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking and socializing with his many friends. He loved music, played both the banjo and harmonica and was once in a band.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Carol; son, Thad Hahn (Kim), Prior Lake, MN; grandson, Jordan Hahn (fiancé Ellie), Hopkins, MN; granddaughter, Hayley Hahn (fiancé Justin), Eagan, MN; sisters, Phoebe Hansen, Aurora, CO, and Bonnie (Franklin) Houser, San Antonio, TX. Dear Carol and Family,

It saddened me to read of Randy's passing today in the K-Stater.

Randy and I were pledges together in Spring 1964 at FarmHouse Fraternity. He was the life of the class and always full of good ideas.

You might recall that the night before your son' s birth that you and Randy played bridge with me and my future wife, Susan. I always wondered if we did something to start your labor!

I hope you are working through the grief of your loss. May you find peace in your many memories.

Randy was 4 years younger than me when we grew up in St John, KS! I knew his entire family. My favorite story about Burch (as we knew him) was of him sitting on the well platform in front of our farm house eating an ice cream cone that he was sharing with our little rat terrier. I'm sure that Mom and Dad would smile along with Randy's parents as they all watched that event. He was clown loved by all even at a very young age. RIP Butch!
