Dick was an amazing man. I am honored to have had him within our family. I have always had alot of respect for Dick. At Legion stag I would always kid with him and kept calling him "Hey buddy...hows it going buddy" Dicks reply...what do u want now. Dick always had a smile on his face when I saw him, and he was easy to talk to. He knew alot about cars and loved to talk to us about them. He also had a love for gas cans as everytime they would have one at Legion Stag we had to win it for him. Also the peas conversations will never be the same at Stag...on of Dicks least favorite veggies.
You know he will always be Dick, and he will always be remembered as my buddy.
Rest in peace my friend, there will always be an empty spot that only you could ever fill.
Marylin our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.

Dick was my friend from kindergarten at Mark Twain Grade School, to Patrick Henry Jr. High and on to Washington Sr. High. We played cornet in band together until Dick was switched to Sousaphone and I to baritone in the 6th grade. We were in the All City Jr. High Marching Band together and often rode to and from weekly band practices together. In high school we were both in the Washington High band and worked together at Dakota Turf while in high school. Dick was elected the band vice president and I band president during our senior year. Needless to say we have had a long friendship both musically, educationally and at Dakota Turf where all of the student employees learned and matured! While I had to leave Sioux Falls for work after college, Dick was blessed to be able to remain in the city. Over the years we have seen each other only a couple of times but our conversations took off as though we had been together all along. Dick is gone far too soon and I know he will be missed by all of us; but surely by Marilyn and their family. When Jeff Knowlton, our Dakota Turf friend and associate sent me the sorry news I was shocked! I was hoping to see them both at Christmas again. It is like a hole in my heart to think I will not see my old friend again on this earth but I do believe I will see him again because of his faith in our Lord. May all of you in his family and extended family find peace with the assurance Dick is living again and may your sorrows be taken from you with God's peace!I

Dick & Marilyn were neighbors of mine when I first moved to Harmony Drive. Dick was the first person I met and was absolutely one of the kindest persons I had ever met. Dick & Marilyn always had time to visit with me and I would have many conversations about the status of the Twins & Vikings with Dick. I will always remember Dick as a kind, smiling and wonderful person. So very sorry for your loss Marilyn. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I will miss chatting with Dick (although I always worried he would swallow that toothpick while talking) while we both tended to our yards or just outside doing odd projects. His conversations were always warm, and I looked forward to his opinion on everything developing around us. I was also amazed how energetic he was, always doing something and keeping everything neat & tidy / I tried to follow his example but for some reason my yard, cars, etc never looked as neat as his. He was a terrific neighbor and will be missed very much. May God watch over his soul and may He also bless Marilyn and give her strength during the coming days.

A great man will be missed by all who knew him. A great tour guide when traveling in the Black Hill of South Dakota as he knew all the scenic views and how to get there safely. Dick was a real friend and would help anybody who needed an extra hand. Our deepest Thoughts and Prayers are with his wife Marilyn.
