Ronald Schulte Obituary

Ronald Schulte

Ronald Schulte, 84, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 31, 2015, at the Sanford Medical Center.

Ron was born on December 11, 1930, in Emery, South Dakota. He initially attended St. Martin's Catholic School, and graduated from Emery High School in 1948. After graduating from high school he farmed with his father, August Schulte, until he was drafted to serve in the Korean War. Ron served as an engineer in the Korean War for a year and then returned home to Emery where he continued farming with his father. Ron eventually moved to Sioux Falls where he worked with Gamble Robinson for several years. He then began a long career as an insurance adjuster with LeMars Mutual/Prairie States Insurance Company, and subsequently Milwaukee Insurance. After retiring as an insurance adjuster in 1996 he took a few years off before going to work part time as a bailiff at the Minnehaha County Courthouse.

On March 10, 1972, Ron married the love of his life, Sharon Leslie from Sioux Falls, SD. The couple bought a home on Holly Avenue, and Sharon soon gave birth to twins Scott and Eric.

Ron was a longtime member of Christ the King parish in Sioux Falls. After moving from Holly Avenue in 2010, Ron joined St. Katharine Drexel parish. Ron was a longtime member of the American Legion. He was also a talented woodcarver and proud member of South Dakota Woodcarvers.

Family, friends, and community were central to Ron's life. He was fortunate to have several friends. Ron enjoyed socializing and was blessed with a good sense of humor. At the end of the day, he was a fine man who lived a good life. He will be missed by many.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Sharon, Sioux Falls, SD; sons Eric C. Schulte, Sioux Falls, SD, James Groseth, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter Patricia Groseth, Westminster, CO; sisters Virginia Heiberger and her husband Tony, Hartford, SD, Betty Grace and her husband Francis, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Josh Harris and his wife Amanda, Zach Groseth; great-grandchildren Ellie, Abram, and Quincy Harris; and many other relatives and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his son Scott August Schulte.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Sioux Falls Banquet.

Visitation will begin at 12 pm with the family present from 5 to 7 pm and a prayer service beginning at 6 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 South Main. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 4, 2015, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church with burial at Hills of Rest Memorial Park.

Sharon, Eric and Family,
We have loved being friends with both of you and Ron. He was always there with a smile and conversation whenever we saw him. We missed having him at Christ the King because we have not seen him as often. I wonder if they will have an "usher" job for him in heaven? Love, "The Lovetts"
