Alicia Ann Shell DEC. 11, 1951 - JUNE 12, 2024
NYSSA
Alicia Ann (Huffman) Shell, was called home, surrounded by loved ones, on June 12th, 2024, at the St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise, ID. Her death was caused by medical complications from cancer, which had only been discovered weeks prior.
Alicia was born December 11, 1951, in California. Her family moved to Nyssa, Oregon and upon graduating high school, she attended college to become a dental assistant. She worked for Dr. Thebo's office in Parma, ID. Soon after returning home from college, she married John Shell, (later divorced,) and had 3 children: Travis, Scott, and Kimberly. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Even while raising 3 children and working a full-time job, she still found time to become an aerobics instructor, and worked graveyards at the Nyssa Sugar Factory during the campaign season.
While the kids were still in school, she volunteered with the Nyssa Ambulance (Treasure Valley Paramedics-Nyssa) and earned her EMT Certification. She went on to gain her Intermediate certification and remained a volunteer with them for over 30 years. Her volunteer status progressed, and she went on to become the EMS coordinator at Treasure Valley Community College. She facilitated the EMT Basic program for 17 years and even after retiring she would still step in to help teach classes. In addition to this, she was an EMS licensing officer for the State of Oregon and would often travel throughout the state to assist with EMT testing. She also donated her time to "CPR Saturday," in Ontario, which was a free CPR awareness class for individuals who wanted to learn the basics.
An avid antique collector, she opened her own store called 2nd Hand Treasures, where she enjoyed traveling to auctions, yard sales, and other places that could land her the next big find. Progressing from there, she began working part time for the Nyssa Chamber of Commerce. She volunteered countless hours for the community during that time and helped coordinate many community events. In August of 1999, she began her career at the Snake River Correctional Institution (SRCI) and in August she would have completed 25 years of service. She recently received a Career Service Award within the Oregon Department of Corrections.
Alicia's motto was, "If you aren't 10 minutes early, then you're five minutes late." The best word to describe her is "Humanitarian". She took pride in everything she did and did it to the best of her ability. We were blessed to have called her Mom, Sister, Aunt, Grandma, Cousin, and Friend.
She is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Arlene Huffman, Grandmother Hazel Tyler, Brother-In-Law Gary Garrison, Brother-in-Law David Shell, and Mother-In-Law Jan Shell.
She is survived by her children: Travis Shell, Scott Shell, Kimi (Armando) Estillore. Sisters: Pam Garrison, Roseanne Lopez. Brothers: Tom (Linda) Huffman, Kirby Huffman, Brent (Nancy) Huffman. Grandchildren: Alex Estillore, Macaria Estillore, Brianne Estillore, Olee Shell, Brady Shell, Emma (Zane) Winward, Devon (Chelsie) Kingland, Cody (Kelsie) Kingland, Katryna (Arianna) Garcia. Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Great Grandchildren, and Cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17th @ 1:00 p.m. at the Ontario First Church of the Nazarene. 1131 Alameda Drive Ontario, OR 97914. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
