Eugene Kermashek Obituary

EUGENE LOUIS KERMASHEK Eugene Louis Kermashek, 93, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, formerly of Atchison,  passed away peacefully on the morning of January 24, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents Gabriel and Mary O'Blak Kermashek and brother, Gabriel.  Eugene is survived by his wife Nancy Jean Reece Kermashek. They were married for 67 years. Gene is also survived by his three sons and a daughter, 9 grandchildren, and  9 great-grandchildren.  Michael and Patty Kermashek and Patrick and Sharon Kermashek, of Leavenworth, Kansas, Elizabeth and James Northup, of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Douglas Kermashek, of Bella Vista, Arkansas.  Gene had a great love of the outdoors, and many of his hobbies and interests included being outside with family and friends. He was an avid gardener and generously shared the fruits of his labor with friends and neighbors. He was always known to never turn down a round of golf or a walk in the neighborhood. Gene took great pride in his family and shared many vacations together boating, fishing, and water skiing on Table Rock Lake and snow skiing in Winter Park, Colorado.  One of Gene's most proud moments as a Catholic was his induction into the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight. His dedicated service to the Catholic community of St Bernard also included his devout commitment to the Adoration Chapel.     Gene was a veteran of the Korean war where he proudly served his country as a pharmacist overseas. He shared many fond memories of his service days and could always be seen saluting the flag in honor of his country. The family greatly appreciates all the prayers and heartfelt condolences at this most sorrowful time.  A private graveside service is planned for a future date.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Kermashek. I grew up with the Kermashek family in our neighborhood in Leavenworth and remember him always with that same smile, even when we visited Gene's Pharmacy - he was a kind man! Keeping all of you in my prayers.

I'm so sad to see this. Gene was my very first employer when I worked for him as a delivery boy and at the soda fountain at his pharmacy in Leavenworth. He was the perfect first employer for a high school kid. Gene was patient and kind and taught me the importance of a good work ethic. Gene was also my inspiration to become a pharmacist. He set the example I followed in trying to care for my patients on a personal level.
Rest in peace Gene.
