HAZEL MARIE CUMMINGS Hazel Marie Cummings, 84, of Lancaster, KS, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the Atchison Senior Village, surrounded by her family. The funeral service will be at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Seth Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the funeral home. Hazel was born October 8, 1939, in Atchison, KS, the daughter of John and Mary Rose (Koester) Wilburn. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1957. Hazel was a homemaker, who loved taking care of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Lancaster Saddle Club. She enjoyed riding and showing horses, having made all of her kids their show clothes. Hazel was an avid garage sale and auction attendee, card player especially pitch, music lover, and Chiefs football and KU basketball fan. She was number thirteen out of fifteen siblings. Every Sunday the family would gather over coffee and solve the world's problems. Hazel recently hosted the seventy-fifth Wilburn Family Reunion. Hazel married Robert L. "Bob" Cummings, Sr., on June 7, 1957, at the First Christian Church, he preceded her on January 27, 2006. She was also preceded by her parents, a grandson Bryan Cummings, siblings and spouses, Bernard (Iris) Wilburn, Elmer (Betty) Wilburn, John Wilburn, Earl (Dorthy) Wilburn, Marie (Les) Smith, Harold (Cathy) Wilburn, Lois (Luke) Artibee, Leo (Peg) Wilburn, Shirley (Charlie) Sowers, Joan (Dave) Seitz, Frank (Linda) Wilburn, Carol (Robert) Sowers, Walter (Norine) Wilburn. Survivors include a son Robert and Judy Cummings, Jr., Cummings, KS, three daughters, Kathy and Rick Baker, Lancaster, KS, Deanna and Duane Lanter, Lancaster, KS, Joy and Henry Brown, Everest, KS, a brother Art and Betty Wilburn, Easton, KS, twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
