Alma Shields Obituary
Alma was a 1945 graduate of Athens High School and attended Ohio University. She was formerly employed at Foster's Dress Shop and Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Co., and she was matron at Athens County Sheriff's Office for 16 years while her husband (Harold Shields) served as Athens County Sheriff. She also worked at the Athens County Auditor's Office and H&R Block, and she retired from Ohio University's School of Nursing. Alma was a member of Bible Truth Baptist Church of The Plains, Ohio.
Alma is survived by her three daughters, Judy Glasgow, Joan (Ben) Wigal and Janet (Dan) Huber; her son, David (Jayne Hart) Shields; seven grandchildren, Jill (Ben) Van Nostran, Lisa Martindale, Jeremiah Shields, Darci (Phil) Radcliff, Tyler (Kelli) Huber, Dia Shields and Corley Huber; 13 great-grandchildren, Riley, Adrienne, Haley, Ellianna, Noah, Caleb, Ashley, Micah, Makinley, Hudson, Emma, Wesley and Malachi; one brother, Tom (Cynthia) Bateman; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Shields; two sisters, Lois Ferrell and June Gibson; three brothers, Richard, George Jr. and Rosser Bateman; and one great-granddaughter, Hope Evangeline Van Nostran.
A funeral service will be held at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home on Thursday, June 22, at 3 p.m., with Pastor Troy Kline of Bible Truth Baptist Church officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1-3 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery. I have known the Shields family since I was a little kid. I was so very sorry to learn of Alma's passing. It is good that we have no doubt that she is with Jesus now. May the family be comforted and blessed.

We were fortunate to be next door neighbors with Alma n Harold in the 1970's. I will always remember what a kind person and devoted mother and grandmother that she was. Bob and I extend our condolences to the whole family.
