Darrell Cogar Obituary

Albany, OH Darrell Leland Cogar, age 72, passed away on August 21, 2025.

Darrell was born on August 7 to Isaac and Edith Cogar and grew up in Guysville, OH. He graduated from Federal Hocking in 1971 and earned an associate degree from Hocking College. He later retired as a Lieutenant with the Athens County Sheriff's Office and was well respected throughout the community. He was an especially devoted father.

Darrell was known for his incredible generosity, kind personality, and-humorously-for always having the neatest uniform and cleanest cruiser in the department. His faith in Christ was deeply important to him. He credited the Lord for helping him throughout his career.

He is survived by his daughter, Bethany Rivera (Pedro Manuel), and his granddaughter, Analyn Rivera; his partner, Tina Jeffers, and her children, Todd Jeffers (Dawn), Brad Jeffers (Liz), and Jill Davidson (John); Jill's sons, Trent Thompson, Lukas Thompson, and Seth Thompson; his siblings, Clea Ahart (Okey), Dane Cogar (Patricia), Vickie Fouss (Dana), Daren Cogar (Rhonda), Lola Ledford (Byron), and Teresa Boyer; and his sisters-in-law, Janet Cogar and Sharon Cogar.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, David Cogar, Donnie Cogar, and Cindy Finney; his brothers-in-law, Mike Boyer and Chuck Reardon; his niece, Jill Cogar Reardon; and his nephew, Jason Barry.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Community Wesleyan Church on October 17th at 2:00pm with Pastor Josh Fakhoury officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory with an act of kindness for someone in need. Darrell Cogar

I knew Darrell as a fellow traveler in the law during all of his time at the Sheriff's Office. I admired his professionalism and genuine caring so much that I coaxed him out of retirement to work part-time at Athens County Municipal Court. We are all richer for have known Darrell. - Judge William Grim, retired.
