Daniel Murray Obituary
Born on the east side of Columbus on December 10, 1947, he was the oldest son of Paul and Anne Murray. A lifelong learner, Dan was proud of his education and the opportunities it afforded him. A 1965 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas, Dan went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from St. Charles College, a Master's degree in Education from The Ohio State University, and was ordained a deacon in the Diocese of Steubenville in 2012.
Dan loved nothing more than to be a part of his community. Before becoming an ordained deacon, Dan was active in the Church community as a lay person. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved baseball and football. As he grew older, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Community and family were at the core of everything Dan did. His community and family mourn his loss and will continue to look to his legacy for inspiration.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Anne Murray, and 3 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lisa, and his 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 2 siblings.
Visitation will be held at 10am on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Sunbury, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will directly follow at 11am. Burial will take place on Friday, February 6, 2026 at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio at 11:30am. A memorial mass in Athens, Ohio will take place at a later date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dan's name to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation or Mt. Carmel Hospice.
