Millfield Gabriella M. "Gay" Campbell, 71 of Millfield passed away Friday November 14, 2025, at The Laurels of Athens. Born August 15, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel F. and Melvina Skinner Pincelli.
She started her career as a young nurse at The Athens Mental Health Center at the Ridges and worked at various other psychiatric facilities throughout her career, including St. Joe's in Parkersburg, WV, The Summit in Logan, and ATCO in Athens. She retired from Appalachian Behavioral Health in 2013. Gay brought laughter and joy to the workplace and truly enjoyed spending time with her coworkers and patients. She devoted her entire career to psychiatric nursing and behavioral health, and was a true patient advocate, improving the lives of so many in our region.
Gay was a fun-loving prankster who lived a life full of humor and sarcasm to which she passed down directly to her daughters. She often faced life's struggles and losses head-on, finding a way to brighten dark days with a smile and laughter, instilling hope in her family and friends when they needed it most. She was selfless and always thinking about others, and she loved to shop for her people. In addition to shopping the bargain carts, she enjoyed family gatherings, doing crafts, cuddling her pets, reading the Sunday Messenger, clipping coupons, scratching lotto tickets, visits to Ash Cave & The Smoky Mountains, and porch sitting with her hubby.
Gay was a loving mom to Gabrielle "Gabby" Campbell (Sheila Ross) and Ashley Campbell (Joey Sweeney). She had a deep love for her grandsons, Mason Sweeney and Leo-Ross Campbell, and she found much joy spending time with them and watching them play. Gay held her relationships with family and friends close to her heart. She leaves behind her niece, Lisa Hook-Hall, who she loved dearly, as well as several in-laws whom she regarded as siblings and many nieces, nephews, and precious cousins. She was also blessed with many close friends through the years, including, Janice Schoonover, Pat Woodring, and Karen Lanning, and of course all the "Cabin Gals".
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Campbell; sisters, Geraldine Handa-Gradwell, Anna Lee Pincelli-Calvet, Louella Pincelli-Tom, June Pincelli-Macak, and Charlotte Pincelli-Agnone; brothers, Dow Pincelli, Orlentine "O.D." Pincelli and Gabriel F. Pincelli Jr.; a nephew, Scott Hook; and a cousin, Judy Pincelli.
