James Lochary Obituary

Amesville James Henry Lochary, 93, of Amesville passed away Friday, September 19, 2025 at The Laurels of Athens where he had been residing since May 2024. He was born on November 10, 1930 in Gallipolis, the son of the late Patrick Lochary and Clara Eleanor Henry Lochary of Pomeroy.

He was a graduate of Pomeroy High School and Ohio University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving in Greenland and Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida. He was honorably discharged in July 1954 as a First Lieutenant. He married Ruth McCurdy in 1954 and they had four children, Susan, James, Jr., Patricia and William "Chris".

Jim was employed as a school administrator at various schools in Ohio and Indiana. He was a representative of Wiley Post and Sons in the sale of college textbooks until retirement. After retirement he moved to Centerville, Ohio with Ruth, then moved to Amesville to live on the family farm in 1998. The Henry Farm of Amesville was inherited thru his uncle Harry Glen Henry and his mother, Clara Eleanor Henry. The farm was founded in 1816 by John Henry. Jim was the sixth generation to live on the farm.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (Ewings Chapter), Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (John S. Townsend 108) and Amesville Grange 798. He was a member and Past Master of Amesville Lodge 278 F&AM and a member of the Athens York Rite Masonic Bodies. He was also a lifetime member of the Clan MacBean of North America.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Patricia Lochary of Scranton, PA; his son, William "Christopher" Lochary of Dayton; his son in law, Steven Garguillo who lives on the Henry Farm in Amesville; a brother, Charles Lochary of Mathews, NC; a nephew, Robert Lochary of Golden, CO; and a niece Dr. Margaret Lochary of Mathews, NC.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth McCurdy Lochary, who died in 2010; a son, James Lochary, Jr., who died in 2019; and a daughter, Susan Rebbeca Lochary Garguillo, who died the day after Christmas in 2020.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at Beechgrove Cemetery, Pomeroy with Steve Hays officiating.
