Martha Klinger Obituary

Millfield Martha "Marti" Melissa Klinger (née Rowland)

April 17, 1957 - October 7, 2025

Marti Klinger of Athens, Ohio, was the fifth of six children to William (Bill) and Mildred (Midge) Rowland and a 1975 graduate of Athens High School.

She is survived by her husband Gary Klinger, daughters: Erin (Limoli) Stevens, Dominique Limoli, and Daniella (Limoli) Siebert, and her beloved grandchildren Josephine, Adadine, Stratton, and Emmeline. Her children and grandchildren were her heart and soul, and she shared their latest adventures, accomplishments, or aspirations with pride and love.

A lifelong animal lover, Marti began with a childhood pony, went on to show quarter horses, coach the Ohio University Equestrian Team, and train both horses and riders. Later, she fell in love with border collies, breeding and raising generations known for their intelligence, loyalty, and spirit.

Marti also created Lavender for Luck, transforming part of her farm into blooming lavender fields, crafting her own products, and finding peace in this tangible symbol of joy and healing.

When diagnosed with breast cancer, Marti faced it with humor and extraordinary resolve-continuing to ride, work, and write through treatments. She later returned to college writing classes, rediscovered her voice, and published A Farewell to Breasts: Essays for Thrivers and the People That Love Them.

Marti's life was defined by love, courage, and faith. She found comfort in Hebrews 11:1: "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." She touched the lives of many and inspired others to love deeply, never give up, and grow lavender by their garden gate.

She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered, preferably with ocean waves in your ear, a dog at your feet, and a story worth telling in your heart.

Viewing will be held at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, October 12 from 6-8 pm. Services will be held at Christ Community Wesleyan Church on Monday, October 13 at 10:30 am, followed by a reception at Eclipse Company Store from 1-3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to The Ohio Pink Ribbon Fund (www.ohiopinkribbon.org) in Marti's memory. Yesterday

I knew of Marti most of my life. I became better acquainted with her during her association with The Lindley Inn as a staff member. Her parents and mine were friends. We talked "horses". Marti's name was obliviously well connected with the area's equine scene! She staunchly adhered to the "Western" style of riding and I would tease her about my "English" background. Marti was a very special and spiritual person! My prayers are with the family!

Yesterday

I first met Marti when my family moved onto the same block of Morris Avenue 65 years ago. She and I were 3 years old, and we became lifelong friends. I left town but would come back from time to time and we would renew our friendship. She always had that same great smile, always made you feel like she was happy to see you, and it was always clear how much she loved her family and friends. I will always picture her smiling when I think of her, I trust she is smiling down on us right now. My most sincere sympathies go out to her 3 girls, the rest of her family, and those of us who were lucky enough to call her a friend.
