Ada Ivester Obituary

IVESTER, Ada

Ada Mae (Pass) Ivester passed away quietly at Northeast Georgia Medical Center on October 12, 2025, after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Ivester was a lifelong resident of Hall County. She was born in New Holland, Georgia on November 20, 1929 to Coleman and Omie Chastain Pass. She attended New Holland Elementary School and Gainesville High School.

Mrs. Ivester married Howard E. "Buck" Ivester in December of 1945 after Buck returned from his U.S. Army assignment in Europe. For several years they lived in New Holland before relocating to North Hall in 1960. Mrs. Ivester was a School Mother at New Holland Elementary, and later joined the Leece Neville Company where she worked for 30 years before retiring there.

Mrs. Ivester was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her siblings, Lewis Pass, Ella Pass Pennington and Opal Parker. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, M. Douglas and V Kay Ivester, of Atlanta, Georgia; and her niece, Nina Parker Whitmire, of Clermont, who was more like a daughter and was in touch with Mrs. Ivester on a daily basis. Mrs. Ivester is also survived by numerous nieces and ephews on both the Pass and Ivester sides of her family.

Mrs. Ivester was a member of the Pleasant Union Baptist Church in Gainesville, Ga for over 70 years. She loved the Church and she loved her Lord.

Mrs. Ivester accumulated a number of honors in in Lifetime including the naming of the Ada Mae Ivester Education Center at the Northeast Georgia History Center, the Ada Mae (Pass) Ivester Children's Garden at the Gainesville Botanical Garden and a number of Scholarships in her name. The Botanical Garden was a particularly favorite of hers, as she was a lifelong Gardener. Her retirement years included much time tending to her flower garden. She was fond of Day Lillies and traded them with friends and neighbors.

The family will receive griends on Saturday, October 18, 2025, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. A meal will be served starting at 12:30 PM, and all are invited to join. Per her instructions, there will only be a private family interment and graveside services at 4:00 PM on Saturday.

Donations in honor of Mrs. Ivester may be made to the Children's Garden at the Gainesville Botanical Garden, 1911 Sweetbay Drive, Gainesville GA 30501.

I loved sharing flowers with Ada. Have several in my yard she sent me over the years. We would share pictures of our prettiest with each other and would always brighten my day when Ada would send me a one of her beautiful pictures.
Very thankful to have met her and created a friendship, we shared a love of god's most beautiful creations ❤
