Alfred Mancuso Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

MANCUSO, Alfred ALFRED MANCUSO Alfred Mancuso, age 88 of John's Creek, Georgia, passed away peacefully September 13, 2011, surrounded by the love and support of his family. Alfred was born January 2, 1923 in the Bronx, New York, the first son of Louis and Palmira Mancuso. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 after attending City College of New York and served in England and Germany as a staff sergeant with the 64th Fighter Wing of the 8th Army Air Force. After returning from service in World War II, Alfred married Jenny Carucci in September, 1946. In 1963, they moved from the Bronx to Rye Brook, New York, where they raised their five children and lived for thirty years. During this time, Alfred volunteered as a boy scout leader, coached Little League baseball and remained a steadfast fan of the New York Mets and the New York Giants. Alfred worked 46 years for William Iselin Co. in Manhattan and retired in 1987. He enjoyed Big Band music and had a passion for dancing with his wife Jenny. In 1993, Alfred and Jenny moved to Alpharetta to be closer to their children and grandchildren, who were living in the Atlanta area. Throughout his life, Alfred was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a role model for his five children and eleven grandchildren. Alfred was devoted to his Catholic faith, to his parish of eighteen years, St. Benedict's, where he was a member of the Young at Heart Club, and to the country he served. Alfred is survived by Jenny, his beloved wife of 65 years, and his children and their spouses, who are: Andrea M. Heller of London, England, and her husband, Fred; Louis Mancuso of Norcross, Georgia, and his wife, Beverly; Laurie Rafuse of Morris Plains, New Jersey, and her husband, Gary; Debra Vayhinger of John's Creek, Georgia, and her husband, Evan; and David Mancuso of Smyrna, Georgia, and his wife Lisa. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Vincent and Edward. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, Georgia 30075 from 2 until 5 PM. A funeral Mass to celebrate Alfred's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 19, 2011 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in John's Creek, followed immediately by a reception at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Alfred's memory to The Wounded Warrior Project online at woundedwarriorproject.org or by mail to 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 3300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256 - Attention: Donor Services.
