Alice SHINALL

SHINALL, Alice Weekes Clements Alice Weekes Clements Shinall of Atlanta died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the age of 91. Alice grew up in Decatur, Georgia, and graduated from Decatur Girl's High and Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. While working at Emory University after college, she met and subsequently married "the love of her life", Robert (Bob) Phillip Shinall, Jr, who was a medical student at Emory. They had three children, Robert Phillip (Phil) Shinall III, Mary Alice Shinall, and Myrick (Rick) Clements Shinall. Alice loved her family, friends, Decatur First United Methodist Church, and the Decatur/Atlanta community. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. While raising her children, she also served her community. She was a past President of the Junior League of DeKalb County, active in the Medical Auxiliary, and was one of the founding directors of Fidelity National Bank in Decatur. She also enjoyed traveling, attending Agnes Scott reunions, Georgia Tech football games, spending time at her condo in Boca Raton, Florida, and being with her friends and family. She loved her 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Gammy", and her late husband Bob "Doc". She is predeceased in death by her parents, Goodwin Myrick Clements and Mary Beall Weekes Clements, of Decatur, Georgia, and her beloved husband Dr. Robert (Bob) Phillip Shinall, Jr, M.D., of Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Greer Shinall III, of Atlanta, GA: her daughter, Mary Alice Shinall, of Atlanta, GA: her son and daughter-in-law, Myrick (Rick) and Karen Shinall, of Atlanta, GA: granddaughter Wimberly McPhail and husband Richard McPhail, of Atlanta, GA: grandson Phillip Shinall IV and wife Missy Shinall, of Winnetka, IL: granddaughter Ali Shinall, of London, England: grandson and wife Dr. Myrick (Ricky) Clements Shinall, Jr, MD and Jennifer Bennett Shinall, PhD, of Nashville, TN: Grandson Lee Vaughn Shinall, of Brooklyn, NY: great-grandsons Walker McPhail and Phillip McPhail and great-granddaughter Hampton McPhail: great- granddaughters Emma Shinall and Molly Shinall. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the team from Atlanta Home Care Partners, Inc, for the loving care given to Alice. Special thanks to Cheryl, Lewis, Audrey, Beverly, Alice, and the other dedicated caregivers. Also, a thank you to the kind staff at Lenbrook Retirement Community where she had been living for the past few years. Alice had a good, long and happy life, but will be missed by her family who loved her very much and will forever be grateful for her love, guidance and care. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, from 2 pm to 3 pm in the chapel of the Decatur First United Methodist Church, followed by a Funeral Service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. A private family cemetery service will follow.
