DRAWBAUGH (O'Brien), Ann

Ann O. Drawbaugh, 87, of Irvington, VA, passed away on May 30. She was a resident of Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury retirement center. Ann lived in many places in her life, leaving a legacy in Atlanta, where she taught kindergarten for 26 years and brought up two sons as a single mother. She was a Presbyterian and had close friends who liked her because she was a good listener. She was born in 1938 in Pennsylvania to Joseph P. O'Brien, a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, and Dorothy O'Brien, a homemaker. They lived in Pittsburgh, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles. In 1959, she earned a B.S. from Drake University in Iowa and married Kirby Drawbaugh; they divorced in 1970. She took their boys to Atlanta, where her parents had settled. She earned graduate degrees in 1973 and 1980 at Georgia State University. After retiring, she lived in Virginia near her son from 2010 to 2018; in AZ near her sister for five years; then in VA again. She is survived by sister, Kathleen Jones (Casey), of Arizona; brothers, Joe O'Brien (Julie), of GA and Jim O'Brien (Ree), of NJ; sons, Kevin Drawbaugh (Margaret), of Ophelia, VA, and Andrew Drawbaugh, of Seattle; and grandsons, David Drawbaugh of Arlington, VA, and Daniel Drawbaugh (Amber); and great-granddaughter, Eleanor, of Charlotte, NC.
