I grew up on Rockne Drive just a few blocks from Scott. I just found out of his passing today. I was telling a story about him to friends yesterday...what a coincidence. I'm running a 5k this weekend with my daughter in law. I haven't been running since Jefferson Middle school. I remember Scott hanging back to cross the finish line with me because I was always slow. I remember that kindness still today. I will be thinking of him as I run this weekend. I wish I had known him as an adult! My deepest sympathy to you.

I'm very saddened to learn today, Nov 23, 2017 that Scott passed away in July. It was an honor to know him. I met Scott in November of 2000, while he was the Senior Fashion Editor for AJC. I was an aspiring model and he was kind enough to give me my very 1st "paying" printwork modeling assignment as a freelancer. I wrote him a letter explaining how I was a single mom of 3 sons & that it was my dream. I was so grateful & totally appreciated Scott for calling me & saying, "I'm headed to New York, but, when I return I'll call you to do a shoot." And he certainly did! From there, he called me for other opportunities as well & a opportunity to appear on Movie & A Makeover for a fashion segment. I will never forget him! He believed in me & he didn't have to! He was always kind, easy to work with & a very down to earth man. I didn't realize how "major" he was in the fashion world. One time I called him to inform him of a celebrity that he may want to get a hold of because they were in town. I thought I was doing him a favor. Lol. I said, "Hey Scott, I just wanted to give you a heads up that Russell Simmons is in town!" He said, "Oh, thank you, I just finished having lunch with him." Lol hahaha. I thought that was the funniest & yet embarrassing thing for me. Lol Another time when my husband dropped me off at AJC for another shoot and Scott had just walked out to go to the nearby Starbucks & invited me to come along...so I did. He ordered, and I ordered. He got his, while I still waited, not really knowing what I ordered, you see it was my 1st time ever getting Starbucks. So I asked the server, "Um, excuse me, where is mine?"...The server responded, oh you ordered, the, blank, blank, blank. Lol Well whatever it was it had so much froth on top and it took some time. What another funny & embarrassing moment. I was trying to go with the flow of the regulars. Scott never said anything, but surely he must have laughed on the inside. I've often thought of him over the years, but sorry, I hadn't reached out. I pray for his family & close friends during this holiday season. It's no coincidence that I saw this today, just by googling his name. I was wondering what he might be up to these days. So if you're reading this now, it was meant to be. I'm a christian woman & believe in our Heavenly Father. I pray God gives you peace, comfort & strength. God Bless You!

A. Scott Walton--what a classy name--made his name matter here in Atlanta as a reporter for the Atlanta-Journal Constitution and beyond. Always fair and witty, he found his niche in the Style and Features sections. He's left us too soon and will be sorely missed in the ATL.

My memories of Scott when I worked at AJC was seeing him walk with that cool strool that he had and smoking his cigarettes.in front of the building saying hello Jeanette look alike. I also got a chance to meet him on a personal level when he was married to Tangela he was so sharp and proper to me always smelled good and was to clean for himself he had the most friendly smile and super smart. I will always remember him and will still she his face through his son Scottie. RIP A.Scott Walton

Grew up with Scott at McKinley School. What a funny, happy, good kid back then. We moved so I did not keep up with him. I followed his writings after discovering his articles in the AJC while on a vacation of all things. I knew it was him because he went by A.Scott Walton in the byline. I knew there had to be ONLY ONE A. Scott!! Very articulate and bright writer as an adult. He was certainly that way as a youngster as well. I still remember running around singing "Kung Fu Fighting" and he would raise up his arms and make a funny "kung fu" sound. My thoughts and prayers to the Walton family.
