Bennie EDWARDS

1927 - 2014

EDWARDS, Bennie Mrs. Bennie Lee (Henry) Edwards quietly passed November 23, 2014 at her Riverdale, Georgia home and joined her beloved husband, Timothy Edwards, in eternal life. She leaves her son- Stephen Edwards, brother- Moses Henry, godson- Curtis Harris Jr. and a host of relatives and special friends to cherish her memory. Born October 12, 1927, Bennie grew up in Chicago, Illinois. While attending Tuskegee Institute, Bennie met her future husband Tim. After their graduation from Tuskegee in 1950, they married and subsequently spent most of their working career in Foreign Service assignments with the United States State Department, Division of Foreign Affairs. Although they primarily lived abroad in Sudan, Somalia, Uganda, Ghana, Thailand, Jamaica and Botswana they also resided state side in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Chicago. After retirement in 1985, they made their final home in Riverdale, Ga. Bennie, an active member of The Greater Solid Rock Baptist Church, participated in the Mothers Ministry and the "Timothy and Bennie Edwards Building and Grounds Ministry". A superb cook, seamstress, organizer, gardener, bridge player, educator and a historian of sorts, she acquired unique articles of furniture, art and other items of historical significance to share with persons who were dear to her. She inspired all to be committed to their relationships and to love and serve the Lord by starting each day with meditation, reading of the daily word and prayer for her family and friends. A memorial Service celebrating the life of Bennie (Henry) Edwards will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 1:00 PM at the Greater Solid Rock Baptist Church located at 6280 Camp Road, Riverdale, Ga. 30296.
