A West Point graduate, Bruce served as an Airborne Army Ranger during the Vietnam War. From 1982 until 1999 he worked as pilot/reporter for the local NBC affiliate 11Alive, racking up multiple Emmy awards and making 'Skycam' a household name in the process. Bruce also brought smiles to thousands of Atlanta children with his frequent school visits. Later in his career, he served the greater Atlanta community as an air medical rescue pilot, flying for Life Flight, Omni Flight, and Air Methods until his retirement in 2016. Bruce is survived by his wife Terry Erion, son Karl Erion and daughter-in-law Mouna Essa of Atlanta, Georgia, daughter Wendy Wheatley and son-in-law Spencer Wheatley of Salt Lake City, Utah, one brother, three sisters, and several nieces and nephews. He was a voracious reader, possessed of a deep fascination with modern history and language. It´s hard to believe that it has been 8 years since Bruce has been gone, but his spirit lives on. As he would say, "Old soldiers never die. The just smell that way."

I remember when Bruce visited my school in 1987. He made such an impression on me that I never forgot. I had never seen a helicopter before and watching him land and take off was the most fantastic thing I had ever seen. We all had so many questions for him that day and he was so excited to answer every one of them. I also remember laughing so hard when he pulled stuffed animals out of the various compartments on the helicopter. He would tell us there was nothing there, but then act surprised when he popped a smurf out of the top! Bruce inspired me that day and probably contributed to my career choice as a Mechanical Engineer. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Five years has not diminished the void that we, who knew him, still feel, but we still have the memories of a very special person. Sky High, Brewster!

I´m sorry to hear belatedly that Bruce passed. Off and on I´ve been looking for him, thought he was in Connecticut.
We were in the California National Guard together from 1975-1977, he was my platoon leader in the 76th Aviation Group. Bruce kept us in stitches with his wit. One of his sayings while we waiting for higher ups to make a decision was " getting ready to commence to proceed ".

Three years hasnt done enough to fill that void in our lives without Bruce. I still reach for my phone to call him, knowing that, even if he doesnt answer, Ill hear his voicemail.
We can still look to the sky and know that he will always be there.
Bruce touched so many lives, and his memory brings a smile to all their faces.

Brewster was number 1 in the Atlanta Badapple Flyers, we all were given handles and he was known as Water Boy or Mr Evenrude for landing in water. We always had a good time together and I am a better person for having known The Brewster. You will be missed but not forgotten. RIP my friend.

I was a freshman (Plebe) when Bruce was a Junior (Cow) in the same company at West Point. Plebes had to stand in formation before meals and before the upperclassman joined them. So for a few minutes the only people in formation were plebes. It was probably so that upperclassmen could inspect us. We were supposed to look straight ahead and no smirking was allowed. Periodically, Bruce would come out and conduct mock inspections. I don't remember anything specifically, but it was hilarious. Under the guise of a serious inspection, he made it impossible for us to keep our composure for when the rest of the upperclassman joined our ranks. Bruce had a great sense of humor. It is hard to describe but anyone who knew him, knows what I mean. He was by far the coolest guy I knew. His senior year, he bought a Corvette just like everyone else, except his model was a year older and much cooler than the new Corvettes. Our Sophomore (Yearling)summer at Camp Buckner, we were told we were going to get to see an upperclassman ski on his bare feet. On the appointed day, as we all stood next to Lake Popolopen at Camp Buckner, sure enough along comes a skier on his bare feet and to no one surprise it was Bruce. I have not seen Bruce for 50 years, so I may have some of the details wrong; but he has crossed my mind many times. I am sure Bruce was serious when he needed to be; but there is no question that Bruce Erion was the funniest and coolest guy I ever knew at West Point.
